E.J. Dionne -- The best choice for pope? A nun
CMR ^ | February 16, 2013 | Patrick Archbold

Posted on 02/16/2013 3:56:06 PM PST by NYer

The media silly season prior to a conclave may have just reached its peak.

The media has been giving all kinds of silly advice to the cardinal-electors and the future pontiff, but E.J. Dionne's idiocy takes the cake.

In giving up the papacy, Pope Benedict XVI was brave and bold. He did the unexpected for the good of the Catholic Church. And when it selects a new pope next month, the College of Cardinals should be equally brave and bold. It is time to elect a nun as the next pontiff.
...
A sister as pope could also resolve what might seem a contradiction in Catholic theology. More than Protestants, Catholics are profoundly devoted to the Virgin Mary — and few were as devoted as the late Pope John Paul II, who declared that Mary “sustains the spiritual life of us all, and encourages us, even in suffering, to have faith and hope.” A church for which the Blessed Mother plays such an important role should certainly be comfortable with female leadership.

While support for a stronger role for women in the church tends to be a “liberal” cause, many faithful conservatives also cite the work of nuns as reinforcing their devotion to the church — from the sisters who educated them in parish schools to the work of Mother Teresa’s religious order.
To even critique the writing of (e)EJ(it) is to give it more credibility than it deserves. It is infantile in the extreme.

That this is what passes for legitimate commentary is a paper such as the WaPo is all the evidence one would need to secure an indictment of irrelevancy.

How about not hobknobbing with Obama? I think he’s been downright weak in opposing Obama. All we have from him is some pretty empty words. How about dealing with unions (all of which are pro-abortion), Democrat Catholics, pro-abort politicians, etc.? He’s done none of that. None of it.

“Are you a Roman Catholic??”

Everyone here knows what I am - and it isn’t relevant to this discussion. Dolan is intelligent, a good speaker, but other than his prayer at the Democratic Party Convention he’s been rather weak when it comes to being pro-active for the Church. When he starts talking about Canon 915 and banning Catholic pro-aborts from recieving communion, then I might start to believe he’ll be anything other than an average pope if elected. As pope he’ll be a great talker. We need a doer, not a talker.

My first papal smiley.

The point is that one need not be Catholic to recognize an attack on God, His Word, and all that the children of God have known and held sacred for century after century. One need only be a child of God through baptism and faith (note the order). E. J. Dionne is a degenerate who will poke God in the eye without a thought to what he is doing, all in order to curry favor with, and justify himself in regard to, the demonic forces he has long ago surrendered to.

"fiercely condemned under Pope Benedict"

Good Lord in heaven help 'em, this is lame.

If somebody thinks a polite, patient, straightforward "Doctrinal Assessment" of the LCWR amounts to all "American nuns" being "fiercely condemned," they've got some strange psychological slips showing.

I'm particularly pained because this is a slander against Father Benedict, who --- together with being a lover of the truth and a firm guardian of sound doctrine --- is a genuinely gentle, sweet-tempered man. People who want to pose as victims of God's-rotteiler-PanzerKardinal-The Roman Inquisition on account of such gentle correction --- ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Sigh.

Just sayin'

Okay, he has a “big mouth”. I want someone who DOES something more than talk.

To me this isn’t a popularity contest. I like Dolan. That doesn’t mean he should be pope. In the end, the cardinals will decide. I hope it isn’t a popularity contest either.

The leftards would prefer a lesbian from the National Council of Women Religious. Barring that, there is always reaching outside the Catholic Church and nominating Vickie Gene Robinsin (misspelling intentional). But enough on the mind of the satanic left, which, outside of Divine Intervention, is hopelessly reprobate.

May the cardinals seek true wisdom from the Holy Spirit. That’s coming from a Southern Baptist.

The weird thing is Obama actually lost the Catholic vote in NY last time, something like a 12 point swing from 2008 if I recall. I don’t know when or if that has happened before. Have to think some of that was from the noise he made over some of this stuff. Agree with you on the lack of discipline though, maybe it would have made a bigger difference. I wonder what a hardline African bishop would do about discipline and public Catholics. I’m not sure how they handle that stuff over there, or what issues they just don’t have to deal with.

Vlad....I’ve been here since 1998 and I have NO idea of what you are. I asked you a simple question...are you a Roman Catholic......it’s a Yes or No answer. I am a Roman Catholic.....it’s not hard to answer that little question.

Then I suggest you pay more attention.

“I asked you a simple question...are you a Roman Catholic......it’s a Yes or No answer.”

I’m not obligated to answer any question. Again, ithe answer has been obvious.

“I am a Roman Catholic.....it’s not hard to answer that little question.”

No, it isn’t hard. It also isn’t necessary.

“Vlad, by not answering me, you let me know what you are.....thanks.”

I let you know exactly what I told you. If you paid more attention - even in this thread - you wouldn’t have asked the question.

Again, whether I am Catholic or not is obvious to anyone who pays attention. You are, however, free to continue making a fool out of yourself. It’s a free country.
