OREM Striving for perfection may be driving some female members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to depression, one researcher says.
Utah Valley University professor Kris Doty looked at depression among LDS women, finding that "toxic perfectionism" was one major factor of depression reported by the group. The other four factors, Doty found, were genetics, history of abuse, family relationships and feeling judged by others.
Over a one-year period, Doty and her colleagues looked at clinically diagnosed depressed women who identified as LDS. Seven of the women were using multiple medications to treat their depression, 19 were on only one medication and 10 had participated in therapy. Women in the study said the church's teachings about perfection led to painful misinterpretations wherein many women believed they could not make mistakes. This belief, Doty said, caused them to "become hyper-competitive and anxious."
At a symposium on the topic Thursday, study participants said church leaders were reminding women especially mothers that they are not required to be perfect.
I concern myself more with the hell bound. After one has been trodden down, they can get back up but hell is forever.
I mean, these articles are not done “expose’” style of the person behind the study...therefore, are you really claiming that Mormon church-owned media outlets are highlighting somebody who is “preying on Mormon women?”
I don,t think a faithful Mormon would write a story that would make the Church look like a piece of crap, but a therapist who expose,s the sufferings of Mormon women in his own church has got to be really something in the eyes of the non Mormon women, money money money.
It is nothing uncommon at all for people to become a member of a Church just for financial rewards and i believe this to be especially true in the Mormon Church.
If the same story would have been written by a Catholic about Catholic Women i would not trust it and neither would any one else except maybe the Mormons.
Would you not wonder if the guy was a real Catholic or not?
If it had been any one except Mormons no one would have believed it, and that is putting it mild.
So my first comment on the subject was about not believing that a real dedicated Mormon would write such
a story.
Elsie, i was reading all of that stuff from the Mormon founders 50 years ago, i did not believe it then and i do not believe it now.
My only argument on this whole thing is that some Mormon therapist writes a story about how Mormon women feels inferior.
I don,t know if you read the story or not but it sure smells of financial and notoriety to me, a faithful Mormon would not write such a story even if it were true any more than a catholic would.
You are right; but vague, since you never explain the OTHER false religion besides MORMONism; leaving the jurors to ASSUME you meant Christianity - MORMONism’s biggest enemy.
(Why is one cell on another planet considered life, and in the womb it is not.)
Maybe these dudes are finally waking up and deciding to TELL the world about MORMONism.
I hear that a BUNCH of MORMON disgruntleds are going to be doing some kind of protests at their churchs TOMORROW.
Yeah; the indoctrination of members runs deep and subtle...

This is the audio clip of Dallin H. Oaks, current Mormon Apostle leader, from the PBS documentary, "The Mormons", declaring unequivocally:
"IT'S WRONG TO CRITICIZE LEADERS OF THE (MORMON) CHURCH, EVEN IF THE CRITICISM IS TRUE."Don't criticize?

Do ANY of you damned SLC mormons reading this, who has gotten any information from your church, that old B.Y. was:
damned for not following your Scripture found in D&C 132:58-66?
Again, you use the phrase mormon haters and have yet to provide one example of this illusive hate.

Maybe these dudes are finally waking up and deciding to TELL the world about MORMONism.
what exactly is wrong with striving to be perfect? Are the lib media now saying it is to be abandoned and everyone should be losers like them?
Once again yuou either m iss the point or avoid it: just like MORMONs have avoided reply #59.
Are they any, ahem, 'accusers' that have NOT shown the evidence?
If so; those would be MORMONs.
I am merely repeating what Living Prophet® #2 has said.
Why are you confused over just WHO is angry?
Dance around, try to deflect, attempt humor, avoid dealing with historical facts.
Can't Millet teach his mush heads amy better than that?
Well now; we're getting somewhere!
Admitting you don't know is a good first step.
Now then, if you can get in contact with your EMOTIONS over this matter, you might determine the source of your distrust: the messenger or the message.
