The Pope and the Catholic Church are very right about a lot of things, but then the church goes off the rails and supports gun control, fights against immigration laws, opposess the death penalty, opposes just about every military operation that comes down the pike, pushes big government as a means of social justice, etc. In many ways, aside from abortion and the occasional excellent statement like this by the Pope, the Catholic Church is disturbingly far to the left.

I really wish the Catholic Church would figure out that the secular socialists are their enemy, not conservatives - but they just keep attacking the very people that would love to fight with them. Every time conservatives are about to line up with the Catholic Church, a bunch of Bishops in the church throw in on the side of the Democrats in the gun control fight. It’s incredibly frustrating.

I believe you and the Holy Father cited correctly the Western Church. I agonize over the condition of the Catholic Church in the USA. It is shocking the socialist strain that runs through her, gets all the press and the first microphone. Depressing, but God, how I love her and will never leave her.

We've got a big problem with our bishops here in the USA, especially as packaged and marketed by the USCCB. Best to ignore all their political gasbaggery, it's rarely strongly tied to doctrine, and often in contrast to doctrine.

Yeah, ignore it. Everybody else does. Tagline.

Evidently you have never heard about “Just War.”

Ecclesiastes 3: “A time for peace and a time for war.”
