The Jews in the time of Christ knew the exact parameters that the Messiah would have to fulfill according to their understanding of OT prophecies. Jesus, to their literal understanding, didn't cut it. Had they respectfully asked Him, He would have gladly explained their true meaning and significance. They didn't and STILL they wait...convinced that their interpretations are correct. ‘He that hath eyes to see’...indicates deeper spiritual realities than simply the literal.

Do you believe that Jesus rose physically, bodily, from the dead, that his disciples were able to literally see him and literally touch his glorified body? That is at the heart and center of the whole Christian faith. If yes, then one can see that the bodily resurrection of the dead is likewise to be taken literally. If no, then you are outside the Christian faith and have a different gospel, which is no gospel at all.
