BARNESVILLE, Minn. If you want to be a Catholic, you have to be 100 percent Catholic.
Thats the lesson one family here learned after their 17-year-old son was denied confirmation after the priest at the Assumption Church here found a pro same-sex marriage post on the teens Facebook.
The decision by the Rev. Gary LaMoine to deny the religious rite of passage for Lennon Cihak in mid-October shocked his mother, who said her son has gone to church every week and volunteered around the community in preparation for his confirmation this year.

About time.
Good. At least this priest takes things seriously.
As a Catholic school teacher, this is VERY welcome. :)
But Father, he's such a good boy.
Rev. Gary LaMoine bump!
Great...but will the bishop back up the priest?
Well, isn't that special. He could do that over at the local Unitarian Universalist congregation ... perhaps he would be more at home there?
Or perhaps he should repent of his support for institutionalized perversion. "Gay marriage" is an oxymoron, and a mockery of a Sacrament.
Kudos to Fr. LaMoine.

>>If you want to be a Catholic, you have to be 100 percent Catholic.<<
Someone tell the Catholic Church. It is amazing the number of “Buffet Catholics” who actually take Communion.
They should call themselves Protestants and move on.
Still, Doug insists hes not mad at LaMoine, calling him just a messenger of the church. The same could not be said for his wife, who said she doesnt plan on returning to the church ever again, her son nodding in agreement.
You should be able to go to a church for support, help, Lennon said. He pushed me away.
Those damn papists ... who told them they could stick to the truth? Who do they think they're following? Jesus?
We can’t be cafeteria Catholics?
Good. I don’t see what’s the problem.
awesome
Love how the dad is now worried about being able to be buried next to his parents. THATS why you need to deny the heretics communion, use of the Church for weddings and funerals. Only when they see there is a price to pay will they start to worry. Watching Pelosi and Biden pay no price gives these “cinos” no reason to examine their mistakes.
Yes this is good. If you want to be catholic you must espouse catholic values and dogma...
Catholicism is not a pick and choose what you want kind of faith. Purging the rolls so to speak of those who would pervert Catholicism is a good thing. Our numbers will be smaller but our faith and witness greater.
The cafeteria is closed.
They should move to Montgomery County Md. There is a parish there where a lesbian can get a priest fired because he has the gall to refuse her communion when she brings her “partner” along for the funeral mass for her mother.
Who pushed who away? So sad, they have ears but cannot hear, eyes but cannot see.
That is very true. When the priests and bishops really start enforcing things, it does have an impact.
"Lennon" is right, at least, about that. And he got the help he needed. He didn't get the support he wanted. Big difference.
Supporting sin and perversion is not help. It is destruction of body and soul.
The "help" he should expect is instruction on right and wrong; the "support" he should expect is to repent of his sins, and seek God's grace to avoid those sins in the future.
“The decision by the Rev. Gary LaMoine to deny the religious rite of passage for Lennon Cihak in mid-October shocked his mother, who said her son has gone to church every week and volunteered around the community in preparation for his confirmation this year.”
hmm my mom would be even more shocked if I supported gay marriage, G-d forbid.
Probably named for John of Beatles fame.
“In those days there was no king and everyone did what was right in their own eyes.”
I suspect that the homosexual “marriage” issue is near and dear to this kid’s heart.
Tells you where the parents are at.
But would the graces conferred in the sacrament help him see the error of his ways? I'm no theologian so perhaps I should just stay out of this, but here I go anyway. I know in our country, Confirmation is used as a sort of acceptance of one's Baptismal promises, i.e. you're an adult in the Faith. But I also know that's not how it's viewed in the Eastern Rites where babies are confirmed.
Still, in infant Baptism and Confirmation there are Godparents standing up as believers, so I suppose that would be the argument against confirming this kid. But, still, he's just a kid. I can't help but think the graces conferred in the sacrament of Confirmation, i.e. the gifts of the Holy Spirit - wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord - accompanied by some deep prayer, might help the kid to see the error of his ways. Might teaching the boy the Church's view and asking him to pray honestly upon it both before and after receiving the sacrament be the more pastoral response?
Yeah, they probably just love Lennon’s “Imagine”, particularly the line:
Imagine no religion....
The problem will be with the bishops . . . more than likely, they'll let this priest down.
Unless and until I see a nationwide, highly public excommunication of each and every "pro-death" politician, I will not hold any respect for the Catholic Church. It's gotta' happen; otherwise, the wholesale, bloody, merciless slaughter of our unborn and newly born American children will continue.
The Catholic Church has got to stop worrying about how many people will be leave their church and worry more about how many souls they'll save. The marketing aspect of the Catholic Church has got to stop.
Two lessons.
1. Glad to see a Catholic diocese step up for a change. If this little twerp support same-sex “marriage” and fancies himself a christian, he should become an Episcopalian. That’s “Catholic-lite”, and they tolerate anything.
2. If you are an active Catholic (like yours truly) and oppose church teachings on some issues (ditto) then don’t let the church know who you are!! They can’t excommunicate you or deny you communion if they don’t know your identity.
Oops. Meant “supports” not “support.”
How's expecting Confirmation to straighten out wayward youths been working out for the past forty years?
Is your parish jammed with young folks who shaped up after confirmation?
Or, are the majority of those who received confirmation with no strings attached absent without leave, doing their own thing, and while doing their own thing, claiming to be Catholic and thereby thereby slandering the name of His Church?
It cost's nothing so it must be worth nothing, that's the way it looks to this kid and his parents both. It's a cute little tradition like a new Hallmark ornament every year and not much more.
Paaa den the stutter of , “thereby thereby”, LOL
I just called the church and spoke to the receptionist. I said they were doing the right thing and if we love the homosexual with the love of God then we will not condone the behavior. It destroys and kills. She was so grateful for the call because she said they were getting tons of angry calls. We need to pray for this church.
The Catholic church is going to start seeing dividends to not compromising its beliefs.
Trying to be all things to all people gives no spiritual strength or solace. But maintaining your doctrines and standards, insisting on them, creates a firm foothold, so that people can invest in their beliefs and faith.
Note how socialists are adamant that organizations must compromise their beliefs in some ways. They do this intentionally, to strip those organizations of credibility, that they are just contrivances of no real value. And socialists get extremely irritated, and attack, when people refuse to compromise their core beliefs and principles.
Good-— don’t wear the Catholic jersey while intending to play for the other team. The ultimate definition of a hypocrite.
Hurray for Father Gary LaMoine!!
“It cost’s nothing so it must be worth nothing, that’s the way it looks to this kid and his parents both. It’s a cute little tradition like a new Hallmark ornament every year and not much more. “
That’s typical of most Catholics in upscale suburban parishes these days. You get your kid confirmed because its something you’re supposed to do, even if you have to bribe them with something like a cellphone (I’m not admitting anything here!) to get through CCD. Most teenagers and young adults thing religion is a gimmick. They don’t return to the faith as a rule, unless there’s some crisis like a health scare than sends them back into the embrace of Jesus.
Matthew 23:27-28,-— “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”
Do you have an email or something where we can let them know we support them and let them know we’re praying for them?
Confirmation is confirming you believe in the teachings of the faith (for those who were baptized too young to give conscious consent) given this teen clearly is advocating a position oposite of his faiths teaching he does not confirm to abide by the faith and was rightly denied to be confirmed as it would have been a false claim on his part to do so.
Why is this a news story or even shocking?
He needs to be instructed on marriage and study the Catechism on homosexuality. If after this review he rejects the policy then he's not called to be a Catholic. That's the end of it. Move along; don't point fingers. Accept it. Embrace it.
Because these folks and a lot of others believe it's their right to claim they're Catholic even when they don't believe a thing the Church teaches.
They see the Church as a part of their family traditions or ethnic identity, not as The One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church Jesus Christ Himself founded. They've bought into the idea that their local church is something for them to mold into their own image rather than their being part of the One True Church that keeps the sheep from going astray and helps to mold them into the image of Christ.
We need to pray that Christ will smack these folks upside the head so they'll see that they're not tinkering around with just some family traditions or personal preferences.
Many years ago before I served in WWII I was baptized and at a later age I was confirmed in my Lutheran Church. Though there have been times the premises of confirmation were not kept I always held/believed that that my baptism and confirmation were bound by the faith of the Church. I believe the boy and his mother really don’t believe in such a bond for a Catholic faith.

I think I answered my own question. I didn’t find anything else that might fit the bill and it even has a way to leave messages.
Imagine no religion....
...and don't forget, "Imagine no possessions....."
....as he's living in a luxury apartment in New York!
..and don’t forget, “Imagine no possessions.....”

(((
Oh, but you don’t understand, comrade. That’s no possessions for you and me. For the elite, possessions are good. /typical leftist hypocrisy

This kid defaced a Minnesota For Marriage yard sign. Where did he get it? Neighbor's yard? The Church?
As a sponsor of multiple confirmants, Lennon is not Sacrament of Confirmation material...
I predict that this priest will be “reassigned” shortly.
