Scientists Announce Discovery of ‘God Particle’
Arutz Sheva ^ | 4/7/12

Posted on 07/04/2012 2:34:59 AM PDT by Eleutheria5

A progress report from the Large Hadron Collider particle accelerator has declared that the Higgs boson, dubbed the “God particle,” has been found. The discovery of the new particle is a major step toward confirming the Standard Model used in modern physics.

Professor John Womersley said, “They have discovered a particle consistent with the Higgs boson… That is confirmed...."

Still not committing to exactly what they found. BBC America science reporter likened the find to solving one side of a Rubik's Cube. I wonder if this announcement has anything to do with funding running out.

Things could get even more interesting if this particle turns out be a key to understanding dark matter and energy.

Would it be wrong to call something a hundred times more massive than a proton yet so extraordinarily elusive a form of “dark” matter itself?

More likely it’s one-upsmanship. The Tevatron team announced earlier that they had found collision data consistent with the presence of the Higgs Boson. The odds that the LHC team just happened to find data of direct evidence just a few days later are ridiculously high; they’re just doing this so the (much smaller) Tevatron can’t steal their thunder. The Tevatron has been shut down now for a couple of years, and is much less powerful; if a Tevatron is all that’s needed for major discoveries, it kind of makes the cost of the LHC unnecessary.

Story also here...

CERN physicists report strong evidence of Higgs boson (w/ live video from CERN)
Two independent teams at the world’s biggest atom smasher say they have both “observed” a new subatomic particle — a boson — that looks just like the one believed to give all matter in the universe size and shape.

Does matter really size ?.....or is it the motion of the Bosun that counts?

Thanks for reminding me about why this story looked familiar. Was watching the press conference from CERN and the reporters couldn't get Peter Higgs to commit to anything. It may all be a “me too” moment.

Puny human reason still worshiping the creation instead of the Creator. That’s not new. It’s the same old idolatry.

I believe in God and find this research quite consistent with that belief. In fact, it strengthens it.

I heard this on the radio yesterday or the day before.

The guy that was being interviewed said it was like smashing two small things we can't see together and producing an even smaller thing we can't see.

I think they're democrats ...

Yes, the headline writers have been somewhat ahead of the story I would say.

Actually, the Tevatron report says that they found evidence, but that the LHC would be needed to actually confirm and find it.

If the Higgs gives mass to all the other particles, what gives mass to the Higgs?

Yeah.. because celebrating the discovery of His Creation is a bad thing..

The answer to that one is only several more billion dollars of government grants away.

...Light Indeed !!! Here is a bit of light which will allow you to see more clearly. It seems that Charles Darwin once thought that he too could unravel Gods Fabric Of Life which in fact cannot be unraveled. That Darwin was brilliant and a true credit to the church is apparent,in that he eventually returned to God and the church and renounced all of his theories on evolution. His mission was scientific, but, his intent was to be drawn closer to God which is exactly what you see taking place once again within the scientific community.
Though the bulk of today’s scientist will adamantly reject any connection between their work and the search for God,this is precisely what you see, and the Beauty of this fact lies within their own theories and aspirations.
Relativity was explained to you eons ago and was never hidden, however,it was apparently rediscovered by another great mind of the time who was the father of data mining.
So once again, they bask in the light of yet another self anointed miracle even though their thimble of knowledge is even yet half full, which will forever leave their thirst for Earth Bound physics remaining to be quenched.
