WASHINGTON, May 18, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - William Peter Blatty knows a thing or two about what happens when a hostile presence infiltrates Catholic bodies.

Blatty, author of both novel and film versions of the horror classic “The Exorcist,” is getting ready to launch a canonical suit against alma mater Georgetown University, calling U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ appearance as commencement speaker “the last straw” in the school’s relinquishing of Catholic identity.

A frame from the movie "The Exorcist" with a slight adjustment.

“The scandals that Georgetown has given to the faithful are too many to count and too many to ignore any longer,” said Blatty in an announcement.

Important quote from the article:

Blatty states in an announcement from The Father Kings Society that its Canon Law action is based on Georgetown’s “failure for more than two decades to comply with the requirements of Ex corde Ecclesiae,” the Vatican’s guidelines for universities maintaining the Catholic identity.

I am not an RC but what Catholics refer to as the'Magesterium’ of the church, a sort of combination of moral authority and historical sanctity is truly impressive and has rightly been considered one of the bulwarks of western culture. The ceaseless efforts to demean, dilute, and finally trivialize such a moral-ethical construct must strike even thoughtful secularists as an imprudent and dangerous action. Something like a religious version of liquidating the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After it was gone its obvious critical reason for existing became obvious to even many who wanted it destroyed. Sibelius reminds me of those imprudent self willed people who wanted the Hapsburg state demolished for the benefit of their particularist ambitions. The difference is a number of the particularist, such as Masaryk were highly intelligent men motivated by a narrow but clear vision of what they fervently believed would be a better political arrangement for their ethnic community. Sibelius strikes me as a shallow and twisted human being. There are many faces of evil including those whose inner demons convince them that they are acting for the betterment of humanity as they go about destroying the moral and ethical basis for the social order. Sibelius is I believe one of those who has become controlled by her private demons. So exorcism would seem to be at least as rational a response as anything else in face of something supernaturally evil in its essence.

Wasn’t this the author that knew Al Gore in college, and who used him for the basis of his split green soup scene?

While I wholeheartedly agree with what Blatty is doing here, I, for one, will never forgive him for that movie-It has given me nightmares since I was a child!

It is considered a masterpiece and poll after poll says it is the scariest movie ever made. But nothing beats the horror of the obama regime..

I read on here last night that Sebelius was excommunicated by her bishop in KS, but GU invites her as commencement speaker? The chasm between “Catholic” universities and the Catholic Church is extraordinary.

The Church ought to offer those universities’ boards the option to buy out its interest (whatever it is, if anything) in the university and to no longer use its affiliation with the RCC in any way. Just go private/secular like all the other universities that originally had a religious affiliation, i.e. Princeton, Duke, Syracuse, etc., etc., etc.

Sebelius, while governor of Kansas, was barred from Holy Communion by her bishop (Archbishop Joseph Naumann) in 2008. She was not excommunicated. They’re two different things. Bishops in the Washington DC area declared their intention to honor Bp. Naumann’s directive.

But now that she no longer resides in Kansas, she does not answer to Naumann. I don’t know if she now is able to receive Communion or if the local bishops still honor Naumann’s directive.
