'University should have gotten a Christian to speak not someone who practices a cult'

(CNN) Liberty University students and alumni are accusing the Christian school of violating its own teachings by asking Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, a member of the Church of...Mormons, to deliver its 2012 commencement address. By Friday morning, more than 700 comments had been posted on the school’s Facebook page about the Thursday announcement – a majority of them decidedly against the Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr.’s invitation, citing that the school had taught them Mormonism isn’t part of the Christian faith.

Yup. We saw this coming...where even Christians start becoming apologists and shills for a cult.

The sifting is here...

It’s heartening that the students are protesting, though.

And yet in 2010 when Glen Beck was the speaker, the students cheered at the announcement. I guess those folks graduated.

I imagine at one time Harvard's students got upset when it shifted from being a purely christian university to embrace speakers of other disciplines.

A university will have to decide what it wants. It if wants purely christian education, it will desire a certain slate of speakers. If it wants to educate students in a variety of disciplines, it will want to invite speakers who are specialists in their fields...not necessarily christians.

The problem with Willard isn’t that he’s a Mormon, it’s that he is an absolutely immoral abomination and pathological liar. For someone with his (lack of) character traits, he has no business addressing any religious university.

I get so bloody tired of this; my religion, faith and creed, is the only true religion, faith and creed and is is better than your evil stupid religion, faith and creed, I could scream.

Well, they should do the right thing and refuse to attend, or do a walk out en masse.

The KOLOBIAN should have been jeered out of this race in derision months ago, time to go all Ceausescu on him.

I saw this on my local news the other night. I was so heartened to see the students’ response. One of them said, “Mitt Romney shares NONE of our values and has no business being here.” I’m proud of the LU kids.

What’s wrong with these kids? This is the same type of absurd, knee-jerk reaction that showed up when Kennedy was elected as the first catholic to hold the office. Let’s leave it to the left to do these charades.

I’d really like to know; I’d like to hear the school administration’s rationale for this decision, and how are they justifying it.

They are absolutely right. Mormonism is no more Christian than is Islam. Both of them were flaky neo-pagan cults that referenced a few Biblical things (mostly OT, but some references to Jesus as a prophet) and then went off on their own...the planet Kolub, the founder looking through a crystal in his hat to find gold, the married god with his harem, male believers getting their own planets, the prophet getting child brides, killers getting 72 virgins, the black meteor in Mecca with its vagina-shaped silver hole...it’s a little hard to tell the difference.

The Catholic Church does not accept Mormon baptisms as legitimate, incidentally, because the Mormon intention is not to baptize a child into the life of the Trinity, but to claim the child for their cult. I think most orthodox Protestants don’t accept it either.

Glenn Beck spoke there, didn’t he?

Mormonism’s theology is not orthodox.

Obama’s black liberation theology is not orthodox.

If you want to vote for someone ELECTABLE, I am sorry, but it is going to have to be ONE of those two people (as it stands today—of course that could change).

So if you’re going to base your vote on theology, you’re not going to be able to vote for an orthodox Christian believer.

Haven’t they ever had a non-christian speak at the college before?

I also graduated from a Christian college that was Baptist...

It would have been unthinkable there to invite an anti-Christian to speak to young Christian men and women

among them men going on to Seminary to be Baptist preachers of the Christian Bible..
