Last Schullers Leave Crystal Cathedral Leadership
by Steve Eastman, Faith Issues
It was a possibility Dr. Robert Schuller may never thought of until recently. This past weekend he and his wife Arvella announced they were stepping down from the church's board. She put it this way, "We cannot continue to serve on the Board in what has become an adversarial and negative atmosphere, especially since it now seems that it will not be ending anytime soon." The two had been disputing with the board over alleged copyright infringement and back pay for services, tied to bankruptcy issues. This puts the Schullers in the company of vendors who used to supply the Easter extravaganza. Unpaid obligations to this group is one of the main reasons for the bankruptcy.
In a domino effect, Schuller's daughter, Shelia Coleman, announced her resignation over the weekend. She's starting a new church called Hope Center of Christ. Coleman had been pastor for several years. During her watch, the Cathedral's music switched in a livelier direction. Reverend Bill Bennett says it will swing back to the direction of hymns.
Two other dominos fell last week. The ministry fired Schuller daughter, Gretcher Penner, producer of the "Hour of Power" TV show, and her husband, Jim Penner, the program's executive producer.
Because of bankruptcy, the physical facility in Garden Grove, California is changing hands. A Roman Catholic diocese, which had been without a cathedral, has paid $57.5 million. What's left of the congregation has just under three years to move.
Dr. Schuller says he is not following his daughter to the new church. It is unknown where he will be spending his Sunday mornings.

Raise yourself above Christ, make your entire being about fabulous wealth, bleed your congregation and glory not in God’s image and reflection but in a massive mirror that reflects yourself and ONLY yourself.
What could possibly go wrong with that plan?
I stopped by there today to visit my inlaws, interred in the Memorial garden. Then I stopped by the office to see what is going to happen to the Memorial garden. There are lots of folks buried there. I was told that the Catholic dioces will keep the memorial Garden as is. People buried there will remain. People who have already bought plots will keep them, and people who aren’t Catholics can continue to be buried there.
I had never seen the place so full, and on a weekday yet! The staff speculated that it was Catholics, looking the place over. They seemed pleasant and were enjoying themselves. Taking pictures by the statues and around the campus. At least it will be used for Gods work!
I took a wrong turn when I left. Realized it when I saw the Matterorn!
I visited the Crystal Cathedral while on a trip to the area about 10 years ago. At the time, It appeared to be a monument to Robert Schuller more than anything else.
Good job, reporter. It's in Anaheim. literally 2 blocks from Disneyland.

Crystal Cathedral. Wow. Things are just kind of petering out, at the end.
At least the Catholics will save that cathredral.
The YBPDLNPL is generally published infrequently, but based on the exploits of the megachurch pastors posts can spike for a period of time. If you would like on or off of this list please FReepmail me.
The Crystal Cathedral is in the city of Garden Grove, 3 or 4 miles from Disneyland in Anaheim.
