Skip to comments.4 area Presbyterian churches leave national denomination

Four of 60 Presbyterian churches in the Miami Valley recently left their national denomination.
Their ministers pointed to changes in the denominations constitution that paved the way for openly gay people to become ministers or church leaders, as well as changes to the way the church is governed that could provide for a more top-down leadership in the future.
..We were concerned, said Peter Larson, head pastor at Lebanon Presbyterian Church, that some might see this move as creating a church thats anti-gay people, or homophobic. Larsons church voted to leave the denomination. Thats just not true. Every person is welcome here. This is not a condemning place.
But some pastors from churches that remain have their doubts.
The message it sends is, we love you as long as you arent practicing who you are, as long as you arent yourself, said Dwight McCormick, pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield.
McCormick said that gay people have had a lot of violence done to them over the years, spiritually as well as physically, and that the denomination wants to distance itself from that.

My we are busy this morning.
Thank you for pointing out the problems with organizations. And, the Protestants did not seem to learn from the Catholics just how screwed up organizations get. And, of course they set the stage for all of the sexual abuse you have posted, too.
I'm so tired of this propaganda of narcissism. The entire point of a conversion to Christ is to "die to self", and to allow Christ to inhabit one's consciousness and actions. Where has this pastor been?
I'm in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), we broke off the main Presbyterian over tithes funding abortions and communist rebels but the real problem was that PC-USA dropped Biblical inerrancy and Authority much earlier.
In breaking off, the PCA went back to the Westmister Confession of faith, the five Points of Calvinism, a Pro-Life plank, and ordaining Men as Ministers and Elders only (since the Scriptures indicates this).
It was a breath of fresh air after being a member of the PC-USA to find the PCA and my wife and I love the PCA dearly.
We invite anyone tired of the political correctness in religion (like in the PC-USA) and would rather not have the idol worship (Catholic) as Cronos mentioned.
Be so good as to point out the “idol worship,” will you? Or, perhaps better, please do not put words in another’s mouth?
When the PCA is two thousand years old, and founded by Our Lord, we’ll talk. ;)
Seriously, and without malice or spite, I am sincerely glad for you, in your pleasure at your choice. I am the grandson and great-grandson of Presbyterian ministers. But if you care to be kind, others will also. Or at the least, be respectful. ;)
Indeed. It encourages me to see congregations leave the PCUSA for more orthodox denominations!
As more denominations are subverted for the liberal political agenda, ignoring their traditional doctrines, which eventually forces conservatives of faith to leave them, it is noteworthy that the liberals soon realize that the liberal subverters are far less likely to support a church which they have corrupted.
In the media this results in what is called the “dinosaur death watch”, as the public shuns dishonest liberal media in favor of more objective conservative media.
So there needs to be a parallel in religion to note how the arrogant liberal churches fail, compared to the success of the conservative churches more concerned with faith than politics.
And this is profound, not just in the US, but in the world. For example, the very liberal Church of England (Anglican) is dying on the vine, yet the very conservative African Anglican church is growing at an astounding rate.
Likewise, Anglicans in England are seeking Catholicism because they see in it the respect for doctrine and beloved traditional values.
So how will go the Presbyterian churches? At first, the liberals always seem to win, but their victories are ephemeral, because they see churches as just a means for political change, not for spirituality and redemption.
“Dinosaur liberal church death watch?”
The Presbyterian Church USA will eventually end up with gay pastors trying to molest children. Gay pastors, of any denomination, have a compulsion to molest kids.
I know some very conservative people who go to a Presbyterian Church USA. They have no clue how liberal it is because the pastor doesn’t advocate liberalism on Sunday morning. These people vote Republican, but the PCUSA official positions are as democrat as you can be.
You are absolutely correct.
No Idol Worship here, move along, nothing to see.
Ah. Snarkiness. Cute. Not. So where in his posting did Cronos mention idol worship? He didn’t. You did. In the present context, that is usually termed something like misdirection. As in, “no, I don’t want to discuss THIS, so, hey, look over here!”
Oh well. Maybe you’ll have better luck next time.
What the PCA needs to do, and the same with any other serious Presbyterian church, is to drop going by initials. That simple communication mistake enables everyone to mistake which alphabet group is which.
Thanks for your witness about PCA. Worth considering, as I am a refugee from the wreck of the United Methodist travesty.
My folks brought me up in the United Methodist church, when I came to know Christ the Pastor called me in. I told Him how I had come to believe Christ Died for my sins and he called me an 'experimenter'.
My wife also grew up in a Methodist Church, when they got a new pastor (as you know that happens frequently). Her mother, who gave Bibles to the graduating seniors, asked the new pastor how many Bibles were needed. He asked why she thought they needed Bibles.
I owe much to my Methodist upbringing, but I had a lot of growing to do since then (45 years ago) and He had other place for me to visit including PC-USA.
Believe me, I have had enough of the liberal political correctness and now want nothing but the Scriptures and the pure Gospel.
Yours in Christ,
SR of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)
Sounds like the pc crap I heard from some of our (gay) Methodist pastors — sixth, seventh and eighth in a line of ten (gay or lesbian or gay-simp) Methodist pastors.
