Harold Campings only words to reporters the day before what he has claimed will be the worlds last day were: Were not having a conversation. Theres nothing to report here, according to Reuters.
Wearing a bathrobe and using a walker outside of his Alameda, Calif., home, the doomsday preacher chuckled as reporters tried to get comments from him Thursday regarding the supposed Rapture that, as of Friday afternoon, appears not to be happening.
However, Camping did say the Oct. 21 rapture would be "quiet."
Months after Camping's second prediction of a May 21 Judgment Day, the doomsday "prophet" said that no one noticed it because it was a "spiritual" judgment and that the physical end would "probably" come on Oct. 21. Camping, 90, added that people might not even notice because "there will be no pain suffered by anyone because of their rebellion against God. Unbelievers might just fall asleep and never wake up."
However, according to an expert on doomsday cults, Camping gave himself an easy, linguistic way out.
Catherine Wessinger, who studies doomsday groups at Loyola University in New Orleans and is the editor of The Oxford Handbook of Millennialism, told NPR that Camping is using a common trick among doomsday leaders.
When prophecy fails, she says, "the person making the prediction can give themselves a way out, sort of a backdoor way of getting out of the prediction. Or on the other hand, when nothing happens, the event can be spiritualized."
Reuters also reported that Local American Legion officer Ron Parshall, 70, who meets at a veterans group in an adjacent room next to where Camping holds prayer services on Sundays, said he saw the preacher about a month ago, and that Camping showed no outward signs of debilitation and "wasn't limping at all."
"He was a nice man," Parshall said, adding, "He was just too radical for me. Anyone who claims to be that close to God, I take it with a grain of salt."
Take the money and run you old fraud!
Matt 24:36
I wonder if some distance away, a Neutron star is spinning and emmitting a spray of planet-destroying Neutrons; and these are hurtling at us at near the speed of light, and when they arrive they will sterilize our planet. We wouldn't know they were coming, we wouldn't know what hit us; and there is no way to evade them. Depending upon their intensity, we could be vaporized in an instant, or heat and burn over a long period of time. And yet another prophecy would come to pass.
Either way, one could assume that God is pretty tired of all the bullshit.
I think is the guy who had a program on AM radio. People would call in with almost any question and he anwser them using scripture.
He wasn’t screaming or begging for money just explaining scripture.
He sounded reasonable until all this end of the world predictions junk.
Humans have been prophecizing the end of the world, since the beginning of the world.
You’re right. The Family Radio Stations NEVER solicit money on the air. They are supported by millions of faithful listeners.
They are probably the ONLY ( I am not sure of this ) radio station today that still play the great traditional hymns of faith.
I listen to them regularly and then tune it off when Harold Camping’s OPEN FORUM comes on the air.
RE: Matt 24:36
Harold Camping is not unaware of this verse. Yet, he sort of explains away this verse with clever, lawyerly explanations which in effect, exempts him.
But, as this was probably set in motion a long, long time ago - God knew that all this bullshit was gonna happen. He just set the 'Kitchen Timer' and is patiently waiting for it to ring; then it's spankings for 'most everyone. If I just get a spanking and a stern talking to; I'll consider myself lucky.
This type of “prophecy” is solemn blasphemy.
At one time he was one of the largest non-government operated shortwave radio outlet operators in the world. Anyone who began listening to SW in the ‘70s often easily stumbled on Family Radio within minutes of their first time using the radio.
I don't know which SW station was more annoying, "Family Radio" or "Radio Tirana."
My first radio with SW bands was a Bristol in 1976. I remember the strongest stations: VOA, Family Radio, the BBC, Radio Moscow (with the hum), Radio Canada International, Deutsche Welle, Radio Nederlands, and yes, the exciting Radio Tirana, which would broadcast two hour essays along the lines of, “The Marxist Progressive Movement of the Proletariat in the West is Growing in Size and Strength.”
That got me hungry for some BBQ.
There are still several hour left.
On the other hand, as Jimmy Buffet once said, It's five o'clock somewhere.
Back before and on May 21st I saw a number of his followers on a street corner in front of a big shopping area near my work with their signs .I wondered how many of them had quit their jobs and sold their possessions and how much money they spent out of their own pockets to pay for the signs and how much $ they had donated to Campion.
I didnt see any of these people this time. Either they were raptured or they finally caught on to the fact they were grifted buy the old fraud.
Camping is a false teacher, who taught that he had figured out the date from his own warped reading of the scriptures.
He also rejected the Millennial reign of Christ.
I'll never tell. BTW, know any good restaurants in Cancun? How much does it cost to rent a villa on the French Riviera for a month or two?
