Today as the news is dominated by economic troubles and which politician or party is responsible and relatedly, the military force being used to remove rulers overseas, Christians look for real leadership of a righteous government.
They have at hand the outlines of that government. Dan. 2:44 makes clear God's plan to set up such a government, not in competition with any other, but by removing them.
"And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these other kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite". (Dan. 2:44)
It was the setting up and establishment of this kingdom that Jesus said Christians should pray for.
"Let your kingdom come......" (Matt. 6:10)
Christians are also assured that the rulers of this government would be honest and rule according to God's righteous standards as they rule over earth from the heavens.
"..you made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kings over the earth". (Rev. 5:10)
Understanding what the Scriptures say about what constitutes good government puts the political struggles of the modern world in to perspective for Christians.
The winner of an essay contest on good government was the following:
Good government: “Good government. Sit. Stay.”
I know, and I don’t mean to make light of it. Just thought that was maybe what your thread was about from the title.
And yes, come quickly, Lord Jesus.
I’m not offended, I just miss the punch lines mostly.
I actually am aware but thanks for your Scriptural reinforcement.
