Brett Webb-Mitchell, a Presbyterian minister who is also gay, took to Salon today to share his experience preaching in Hnederson, North Carolina.
It has not been easy:
The bigotry, disgust and underlying fear of those of us who are different than the rest -- whoever "the rest" may be -- was breathtaking in its viciousness. And the place where so much of this prejudice found light was in the pages of "Home in Henderson." People from the town and county had free rein to insult and mock me. "Homo of Henderson" they dubbed me, but often they weren't nearly as eloquent: "queer," "faggot."Though he still confronts homophobia on a daily basis, Webb-Mitchell refuses to let it bog him down, and insists that amidst all the hate, he saw hope: "I saw ugliness in Henderson, sure, but I also found love and support and new understanding. As one member of the church said: 'He may be gay, but he knows how to preach the Gospel.'"I knew they weren't writing about me personally. They were writing about some idea of me, some label they had attached to me, a one-dimensional representation born of ignorance.
This guy I feel set up the community in NC so he could whine. The gays are all over this.
He did set them up. I’m in Hollywood and the homos ruined the parish. I still won’t forget when it’s Gay Week and during the sermon, it’s the cliche “parent of a gay child” LECTURING the congregation that we straight Christian people should tolerate them.
In the meantime, the homos could not shut up during the entire mass and were mocking the ceremony. When it’s NOT gay week, they are nowhere to be found. I guess it’s only when it’s gay week that God shows up...

I know a woman with a really odd shade of red hair. She’s different, people accept her freely and her husband loves her.

Reform Jews eat pork and worth on the sabbath, US Catholics have no problem with abortion and birth control. We now have Chrislam taking over the church. Nothing should surprise us anymore.

True, that is missing in the Presbyterian of the USA
unfortunately, he is now accepted as a Presbyterian pastor in the Presbyterian USA. well, not in the south :)
I wonder what levels of homophilia do they want? how much “acceptance” do they want? They have civil unions, but no, they want “marriage” even though barely 4% or less of those in Mass took it and the numbers of gay marriages that ended in divorce....

Luke, as a Catholic, I KNOW that Catholics do not tolerate abortion and to us birth control means abstinence. If you know of Catholics who think otherwise, they’ve been subverted by the liberal press, TV and movies. It’s time to pray for ALL of the Christians.
Personally, I don’t think it’s very Christian to hurl insults at fellow man. Yell them behind his back.
Seriously, if you don’t like gay people being ministers in your church, find another church or start your own. Or overlook the obvious sinner and keep looking for the hiddend sinners you can lead to Jesus.
Why can't the gay ministers leave and form their own religion? They infiltrated the place and try to change it.
Like so many other cases of interlopers into traditional organizations the gay people involved are doing it for control not just equality for sharing/opportunity.
