Fr. John Corapi, a much-loved priest in the pro-life movement, has reported on his official website that he has been accused of drug addiction and sexual involvement with several women. As a result of the accusation he has been placed on administrative leave.
On Ash Wednesday I learned that a former employee sent a three-page letter to several bishops accusing me of everything from drug addiction to multiple sexual exploits with her and several other adult women, Corapi said in a note on his website.
All of the allegations in the complaint are false, and I ask you to pray for all concerned.
So here's this one, open.
Well, you know. Women never lie about these sorts of things.
If untrue, I trust some strong medicine in the form of libel lawsuits will be filed.
Oh, huh, yeah. Neither do priests.
Okay, he’s been sort of suspended during the investigation. If he is guilty then he broke his celibacy vows. If not, then the woman who said this should be sued criminally.
A politics-based character assassination attempt?
Based on who I've seen going to seminaries, I'd would expect them to be more inclined to go after male staff.
Well, would you agree that we really can’t decide who is telling the truth at this point based on the content presented in this thread?
Neither women nor priests have a stellar reputation when it comes to telling the truth about these things.
A priest having sex with a woman? I find that hard to believe.
Qui tam False Claims Act lawsuitCorapi filed a qui tam False Claims Act lawsuit against Redding Medical Center cardiologist Chae Hyun Moon after Dr. Moon informed Corapi in 2002 that he was in immediate need of triple bypass surgery, but then told Corapi the procedure could wait three weeks. Corapi decided to seek other medical advice, and it was found he had perfectly clear arteries. Corapi ultimately went to the FBI and filed the suit that was the basis of an FBI raid, and multi-year investigation into Dr. Moon's practice.[13]
The United States Department of Justice reached a settlement with four cardiologists and Tenet Healthcare Corporation, the owner of Redding Hospital during 2005, in part due to Corapi's initial complaint. Three physicians, Dr. Fidel Realyvasquez, Dr. Kent Brusett, and Dr. Ricardo Javier Moreno-Cabral, settled for a total of $24 million; Realyvasquez and Moon, the target of Corapi's lawsuit, paid $1.4 million; and agreed to never perform cardiology procedures or surgeries on Medicare, Medi-Cal or Tricare patients.[14] Moon's medical license was eventually revoked in 2007 for gross negligence, among other charges. Realyvasquez is still practicing in California.[15]
Corapi was awarded $2,712,281 (USD) for his role as a whistleblower in the False Claims Act Lawsuit as well as the $500,000 USD he and his friend were awarded for the insurance case they filed.[16] His involvement as a whistle-blower in the federal investigation of the practices in the Redding Medical Center played an important role in Stephen Klaidman's non-fiction book Coronary.
Surely, a disgruntled former employee wouldn't make up abuse allegations against a priest just to get a piece of his $3.2 million lawsuit settlement, would they?
If these allegations prove to be false. Does this mean a new tactic is being used against Pro-Life Priests?
Because the allegations are coming from the woman. Usually in this feminized culture, the assumption is that the woman accuser will never make stuff up. There is an inherent bias to believe women and not believe priests.
Hell, women in this culture can drown their four kids and have people excuse it as just a bad day due to being oppressed by the patriarchy.
He totally fits the part, but he also is the perfect target; and wouldn't surprise me if he were innocent. Maybe even completely so. He claims he is and that will do until/unless proven otherwise.
Plenty of well deserved humiliation to go around on this one: the Church's, because we always need it; his, for strutting around and bellowing; his adorers, for adoring; and perhaps, his accuser's.
Well well, this certainly shines some light on the situation.
The offending Docs can’t be to happy about events involving them. But, a disgruntled FORMER employee sure knows where the deep pockets are.
ANYONE that is responsible for employees is at risk, if they terminate a vengence seeking person.
That’s another thing. I’ve been very active in pro-life for years. Fr. Corapi doesn’t even come to mind when I think of “pro-life priests.” shows you what an image can do for you.
It’s a pretty sad commentary that I’m relieved the allegations concern sex with women as opposed to men or little boys.
I can’t say that I’m a veteran pro-lifer like you, but Fr Corapi has been very outspoken & is on the record as saying that abortion is the single most important issue today. In his opinion, our woes (economic, domestic, & international) will never be resolved until we abolish abortion. He says God will not bestow upon us the leadership necessary to solve the issues until we stop killing our babies. He’s adamant about this.
