1. The thread title is renamed -- on the original site it is "Rush Limbaugh accuses Obama of 'character assassination'"
2. This is not a Religion Forum Topic, and should be in the open Forum

Although this is a secular political article, it clearly demonstrates the subject in which I wish to discuss on this thread, the sad to say COMMON PPRACTICE of many on FR religious forums ( and mind you, I am a traditional Catholic and only debate in Catholic forums) of engaging in “character assassination” rather than debate in the “Arena of Ideas,” ...trying to distract, to get one talking about ME, instead of talking about/in .. Arena of Ideas. They seek instead to discredit and marginalize, and it has gotten old.”

Two days after President Barack Obama labeled Limbaugh and conservative television host Glenn Beck "troublesome" in a CBS interview....I'm reminded of the ancient call for assassination: "Who will rid me of this troublesome priest?"

Although this is a secular political article.... .... and thusly, should not be in the Religion forum, no matter what cockamamie point you are trying to make by miscategorizing it.

So, instead of engaging in the “arena of ideas” you engage in character assassination and personal attacks via a group denunciation?

Yeah, it may “have gotten old”, and it happens all too frequently, and not just in Catholic forums.
It’s a common practice/tactic for those who; are losing the argument, have no legitimate reply, or are just plain stupid.
I call the perpetrator on it and move on. They usually slink away.
Either “man up” and confront them or post only on Caucus threads if folks are upsetting you.

That's EXACTLY the conclusion that I came to!
re:I call the perpetrator on it and move on. They usually slink away.
I always call them on it. They eventually slink away, but before that, the next step seems to be that they get COURAGE from calling others like them that "have no legitimate reply, or are just plain stupid".
re: Either man up and confront them or post only on Caucus threads if folks are upsetting you.
It is on Caucus or like Caucus threads since I only debate on Catholic subjects with Catholics. There may be borderline discussions like with Catholics who think that other religions are Catholic. so, that does not altogether solve this aberrant childish behavior, as you might of thought.
By the way, no one is upsetting me. If one let's people upset them , then they have lost. Rush Limbaugh is not upset or complaining, neither am I. We are both addressing the issue. "Character assassination" without engaging in the "arena of ideas". This thread is about teaching others how normal debate should be carried on, that character assassination without addressing in "arena of ideas" is wrong, AND like you succinctly concluded :
Its a common practice/tactic for those who; are losing the argument, have no legitimate reply, or are just plain stupid.
Thank you for your contribution to the discussion, though it was succinct, it says everything.

Can you give some examples of my not engaging in the arena ideas and strictly using “group denunciation”?
This is what this thread is about, speaking the ideas.
