They do NOT vote.

I am a friend of the maintenance guy in our office who is JW. He would come in my office for years and complain about taxes, the war, the pres.

One day I asked him who he voted for (generally, they are very conservative) and he told me that it is against their religion to vote. I hit the ceiling.

I told him to get out of my office and never come in and talk politics again until he votes.

Oh, we lived in probably the only house in town that the JW’s avoided.

My Dad was a Baptist preacher and he’d invite them in... told them to only bring in the Bible and leave the other books outside.

Then he’d rip their beliefs into shreds. (using Biblical references, of course.)

Word spread... do NOT go the the First Baptist Church parsonage.

They weren’t always like that, they use to honor the flag and also were part of military service.

The Watchtower Reprints, May 15, 1917, p. 6086
“every one in America should take pleasure in
displaying the American flag”

The Watchtower Reprints, May 15, 1917, p. 6086
“Since the Bethel Home was established in one end
of the Drawing Room there has been kept a small
bust of Abraham Lincoln with two American flags
displayed about the bust. This is deemed entirely
proper.”

The Watchtower Reprints, August 1, 1898, p. 2345
“Notice that there is no command in the Scriptures
against military service. Obedience to a draft
would remind us of our Lord’s words, ‘If any man
compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.’ The
government may compel marching or drilling, but
cannot compel you to kill the foe. You need not be
a good marksman.”

The Watchtower Reprints, April 15, 1903, p. 3180
“There could be nothing against our consciences in
going into the army. Wherever we would go we
could take the Lord with us, the Captain of our
salvation, and wherever we would go we could find
opportunities to serve him and his cause. If it came
to the point of battling we above all others need
have no fear of death, but we, assuredly, would be
obliged to draw the line when commanded to fire,
and we could not, in harmony with the divine
program, fire upon a fellow creature with the
intention of taking his life. If we fired we should be
obliged to fire either into the air or into the ground.”

Changing “the truth”....

The Watchtower, June 15, 1964, p. 378
“Well, what is a flag? It is an image made by man;
it is a representation of the State. Flags often
contain representations of things in the heavens,
such as stars, as well as things on earth. So to
dedicated Christians, kneeling before or saluting a
flag would be a violation of the Second
Commandment and of the Christian command to
‘flee from idolatry.’”

The Watchtower, February 1, 1951, p. 77
“Because they are wholly dedicated to God by their
vows to him through Christ, Jehovah’s witnesses
are according to God’s Word no part of this world
which is governed by the political systems. For this
important Bible reason they tell officials of the
government that they conscientiously object to
serving in any military establishment or any civilian
arrangement that substitutes for military service.”
