Using God as a talisman is a mistake thats easy to make. Its human but its something we have to get past.
A hearty Amen to that. I believe that if one really want to study the way God and man interact, then one should study the Old Testament. The Israelites thought God would fight for them all the while they were living the way they wanted to live. The Philistines thought God was nothing more than like one of their gods. Both were wrong. It's almost like the story of Joshua and the angel. When asked who side do you fight on, the angel said neither; he fights for God. God is God, and we should realize our place.
"Without actually consulting Exodus, I seem to remember that the Ark was often surrounded by flashing sparks and that Moses made use of this 'transmitter' whenever he needed help and advice."Von Daniken's explanation for the Ark of the Covenant was IMO the inspiration for Lucas/Spielberg's blockbuster movie Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Oh yes. The Bible tells of it leveling mountains and wasting entire regions. Moses promised that when the Ark was with you, "your enemies will be scattered and your foes fell before you." An army which carries the Ark before it is invincible.
