WAS A “RESTORATION” OF THE GOSPEL NECESSARY?
mormon.org ^ | 2009 | mormon.org

Posted on 03/19/2010 8:59:34 AM PDT by svcw

“Nothing less than a complete apostasy from the Christian religion would warrant the establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”—History of the Church, Volume 1, p. XL

According to LDS Scripture, the Apostle John (D&C 7) and the three Nephites (3 Nephi 28) never died. So, how could Gospel “authority” have left the earth, needing “restoration”?

“…in the latter times some shall depart from the faith…”—1 Timothy 4:1

If only “some” would depart from the faith, how could a “complete apostasy” have occurred? Did Jesus fail to preserve His Church against the gates of hell?

“I will build MY church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” —Matthew 16:18

“...that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once [for all time] delivered unto the saints.” —Jude 3

“...but though we, or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” —Galatians 1:9

I do know about HP printers, haven't seen that post yet.
One of the great things about FR, is that you don't have to see all categories if you don't want.
Hope you were able to help the printer guy.

Why don’t you give the whole quote? “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
That’s Peter as in the first Pope. Peter, not Joseph Smith.

What did Peter pen? That is his contribution to the ‘Gospel’, and anybody can read the WORDS of Peter to discern if a church is teaching the Gospel. Why do people build up filtration systems to strain the WORD for it to fit their denomination's doctrine? Because they need to do things their way.

The only ‘restoration’ coming is the removal of all filtration systems installed over time to ‘control’ for power the WORD of God.

It is Joe Smith that said he and he alone restored the Gospel. (And that he was greater than Jesus)
Ask an lds why? Joe Smith said all before where “whores of Babylon” and thats why (depending on when he told the story) one or two or an angel or John the Baptist or some other beings came to him and told him he was chosen to restore the Gospel.

Why did you give more than the whole quote? Herein is Rome's problem...everything they read they add enough of their self-made religion to "prove" they are the "true church". Sorry, FRiend...Rome is right up their with Salt Lake.

Not according to the Greek, he wasn't.

Peter was the first pastor of the Jerusalem Baptist Church (semi-kidding).

another falsehood svcw,

it is Jesus Christ who restored His Church upon the earth in the Latter days Joseph Smith was His anointed prophet here on earth

because you choose to ignore that part is a distortion of truth!

You can say that the RCC needed “reformation,” but you cannot ignore the historical fact that for about 1000 years almost all Chirstians recognized the authority of the Pope and the Western church continued to do so for another 500 years.

Don’t get me wrong. I thank God for the political effect of the Reformation. Without it, there would be no United States. After all, once you can tell the Vicar of Christ to get lost, you can tell King George III to get stuffed.

So R you are telling me that JS did not say he was greater that Jesus?
Another question. If Jesus was upset that His church was being corrupted why did He wait nearly 2000 years to restore it?
So many great men of history and He went to JS a flim flam man. Please, doesn't even reach the level of idiocy.

For about a 1000 years almost all (Western) Christians recognized the authority of the Pope and the Western Church.

About half of all Christians during that 1000 year period recognized the authority of the Eastern Church out of Constantinople.

Then there are the Armenian Christians who recognized the authority of neither, but they were never as populous as either the Eastern or Western Churches. But they still existed as an independent religion when the Western “Franks” of the Crusade came to the Holy Lands that they called “Outremar” or ‘over the sea’.

Actually, the construct of the Greek reflects back to the word Church, not Peter.

Although I love the play on words in that verse and I will agree that there was no apostasy like the LDS claim.

another falsehood svcw,

The only falsehood is that there needed to be a restoration, Resty.

Or is your God NOT all powerful? (trick question, I know the LDS answer to that).

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

svcw has authority to say that...

quoting what the false prophet Joey Smith had said...

and denouncing Joey Smith as a liar...

However since Resty lacks any authority...

due to being a mormon woman who is denied the mormon pesthood ...

Resty, your words are not valid...

nor are they correct...

Joey Smith didnt restore anything...

Joey Smith didnt even meet God...

Joey Smith was just a liar and a pedophile..

Ok, you still haven't addressed the question.

If Jesus was upset that His church was being corrupted why did He wait nearly 2000 years to restore it? So many great men of history and He went to JS a flim flam man.

(As a side note, who posted this to me....IE which restornu)
