If there's one thing a BYU religion professor likes to talk about, I suppose it's the gospel. But if there are TWO things a BYU religion professor likes to talk about, you've got to add his son's mission to the list.

This is an OPEN thread.
I don’t know anybody who hates Mormons. I would ADVISE them to become a more normal Christian religion and drop the 1830’s vision of scifi theology, particularly after the thing about the “book of Abraham” and the Rosette stone has become known.

Then I will OPENLY say...
Mormonism is not Christianity...
There is only one way to God the Father...Jesus...
Jesus said to the mormons, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man or woman comes to the father, except by me. John 14:6
For God so loved the world that he GAVE His ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, that whosoever believeth in HIM should no perish buth have EVERLASTING LIFE John 3:16
Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily, I say to thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3
You are correct. The theology sounds very similar to scientology, sometimes I wonder if Hubbard got his theory from Joe Smith.
Mormons are nice people and make great neighbors. Just don’t agree with the theology.
AMEN
There is an underlying assumption that anyone who disagrees with Mormon theology automatically ‘hates’ individual Mormons.
I have several friends who are LDS and while I vehemently speak out against LDS theology and the practice of whitewashing their history, I love individual LDS very much.
However, that does not stop many of them from thinking that an attack on ‘the church’ is an attack personally.
I am beginning to think that this is partly due to the fact that members lives are so tightly wrapped up in the LDS church. “The church” is their life, social circle, and identity in many ways that it is hard to identify themselves outside of it. I think this is also part of the reason that it is so hard to leave the LDS church.

A stranger starts berating them in an airport?
A passenger on a plane requests to be moved because he doesn't want to sit next to them?
These just don't sound credible and even if they are, how do these actions relate to "hate"?
If they were "berated" in the airport, we don't know the motive of the person allegedly doing so. We don't have that person's side of the story. There are many possible motives, but to ascribe "hate" to the encounter is pure conjecture on the author's part.
Is this "writer" trying to relate any and all resistance to discussion, any engagement that is not receptive to the lds message, any theological disagreement, etc. as "hate"?
It sounds like it.
Its like playing the race card.

Do mormons readily sit next to homosexuals or drunks without complaining ???
Let us be honest, however: we are human beings; we love and we hate.
A sister missionary from my Ward had a bucket of water thrown on her while serving in Germany. If that wasn’t a hateful act, I don’t know what was.
Some anti Mormons think that it was funny that my friend had a bucket of water thrown on her. We are a peculiar people; that’s true. But my young friend who has given up so much to serve the Savior did not deserve to have that happen to her.
On the other hand, when our missionaries are abused and dishonored and mocked, after the sting wears off, there is rejoicing because they realize they are suffering persecution for the sake of the Redeemer and Savior of the world.
Hallelujah!!!
I am a Mormon. I used to be an anti Mormon until I let the Holy Ghost speak to my heart.
Why do they hate us?
