The origin of the word Istanbul, I assume you know, is "εις την πολιν". Istanbul, at least to me, sounds more Turkish than "Εις την πολιν" or "Κωνσταντινούπολη" (Constantinople). I do my best to avoid using the word Istanbul in any event. "The City", or "Constantinople", are appropriate.
