Also called the osculatorium. It is a plaque made of wood, metal, or ivory decorated with inscriptions and provided with a handle. It conveyed the kiss of peace from the celebrant to the faithful, each member receiving it in turn. In medieval times at a Nuptial Mass, the kiss of peace was received in this way by the bridegroom and then transmitted by him to the bride.
If we are going back to the more meaningful translations, why not?

Maybe those peace signs and kisses, replaced this? I would think a peace sign is a lot more user-friendly than carrying around a tablet.
