A teenager from Missouri has won a contest with her essay that concludes besides being a huge problem for those who choose to participate, "sexting" the practice adopted by some teens of sending nude or partially nude photographs of themselves to others is a sin.

It’s about time someone said it. Sending nude images of yourself or others is a sin against the Sixth Commandment.
Captain Obvious was here ...
Though shalt not kill?
For Catholics the Sixth Commandment is “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
Other Christians number the Commandments differently. For them, the Sixth is “Thou shalt not kill.”
That said, sexting does kill many things: innocence, purity, self-esteem, and relationships.
The girl who wrote this is very wise, and her essay should be copied by parents and handed out to their children.
If it was so obvious, why would 20% of young kids be doing this awful thing?
Because they don’t care that it’s a sin.
You know, as soon as I read your response it dawned on me. I have Catholic relatives on my Mom’s side who are long since gone and I seem to remember her telling me this.
Also, I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion in this.
Do they even know what sin is? So many of them are unchurched.
I know that you homeschool, and that your children are being brought up properly.
So many are not. They are being “dragged up”, as my Mom used to say.
It’s just so sad that God and His Commandments have been nearly eradicated from public life, and totally eradicated from public school.
Good point. There's a lot of groundwork to be done with the average secular youth (and adult, for that matter). It might make more of an impact to get them to consider how *stupid* "sexting" is, rather than going back to first principles and beginning with trying to get them to agree that there is even such a thing as "right" and "wrong."
Even with young people who have solid moral instruction, it never hurts to emphasize that the *right* thing and the *smart* thing are usually the *same* thing.
