Catholic Word of the Day: PRESBYTER, 05-08-09

Although Greek "presbyteros" (sometimes transliterated "presbuteros", as either "u" or "y" can represent the Greek letter Upsilon) is in some less enlightened bible translations rendered as "elder", the English word "priest" derives from it. "Presbyteros" itself is derived form "presbys", leader.

It is similar to an earlier production of Hodges and Farstad in being based on von Soden's apparatus, but without their stemmatic reconstruction of the Apocalypse and the Pericope Adulterae.
