Featured Term (selected at random):

ABBACY OF ST. JEROME

Founded by Pope Pius XI in 1933, to replace the pontifical commission created by St. Pius X in 1914 for the revision of the Vulgate. Its scope is to restore, as far as possible, the primitive Latin Vulgate translation of the Bible confirmed by the Council of Trent, to prepare editions for publication, and to engage in other pertinent studies. The abbacy belongs to the Benedictine Congregation of France, and the work on the Vulgate is under the direction of the Holy See.

Posting this through Easter. Would you like to continue it after that?

Are we just now seeing the fruits of this study with changes in the Mass coming?

Could anyone continue posting it after Easter? It seems like enough people have liked it to warrant a daily thread.

I wish I could but after two years of my own ping list I need a break. Hopefully someone will come along.

If the Abbacy of St. Jerome came out with the Nova Vulgata, then the changes were implemented in the 1950's and 1960's. These were not entirely beneficial, IMO, as they pretty much eliminated St. Jerome's wonderful, canonized translations--based on sources no longer in existence--and replaced them with translations of texts that were handed down by non-Catholics. Still, it is a fine academic work, and the Vatican has approved it.

I was referring to the changes that are coming in the Mass. Perhaps there will be a reversal on some of these things.
