Nearly 65,000 people have signed an online petition protesting President Obama's scheduled May 17 commencement address at the University of Notre Dame, saying the president's views on abortion and stem cell research "directly contradict" Roman Catholic teachings.

"It is an outrage and a scandal that 'Our Lady's University,' one of the premier Catholic universities in the United States, would bestow such an honor on President Obama given his clear support for policies and laws that directly contradict fundamental Catholic teachings on life and marriage," the petition link: notredamescandal.com (Also see petition provided below.)

PETITION to Father Jenkins, President of the University of Notre Dame

Dear Father Jenkins:

It has come to our attention that the University of Notre Dame will honor President Barack Obama as its commencement speaker on May 17.

It is an outrage and a scandal that “Our Lady’s University,” one of the premier Catholic universities in the United States, would bestow such an honor on President Obama given his clear support for policies and laws that directly contradict fundamental Catholic dogma and biblical teachings on life and marriage.

This nation has many thousands of accomplished leaders in the Catholic Church, in business, in law, in education, in politics, in medicine, in social services, and in many other fields who would be far more appropriate choices to receive such an honor from the University of Notre Dame.

Instead Notre Dame has chosen prestige over principles, popularity over morality. Whatever may be President Obama’s admirable qualities, this honor comes on the heels of some of the most anti-life actions of any American president, including expanding federal funding for abortions and inviting taxpayer-funded research on stem cells from human embryos.

The honor also comes amid great concern among Catholics nationwide about President Obama’s future impact on American society, the family, and the Catholic Church on issues such as traditional marriage, conscience protections for Catholic doctors and nurses, and expansion of abortion/murder 'rights'.

This honor is clearly a direct violation of the U.S. bishops’ 2004 mandate in “Catholics in Political Life”: “The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our sacred fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”

We prayerfully implore you to halt this travesty immediately. We do so with the hope that Catholics nationwide will likewise call on you to uphold the sacred mission of your Catholic university. May God grant you the courage and wisdom to do what is right, [and time in this life to fervently seek and receive Penence for this grevious error, if you do not].

Sincerely,

Does the U of ND have any policy where the kids can’t have their diplomas mailed to them?

If the diplomas can be mailed, I don’t understand all the whining.

I think it would be fun to watch him appear in front of 3 kids.

At this point when even the Bishop there is against this, the unrepentant Fr. Jenkins needs to be highlighted in a few million emails to the Vatican.

Address the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal William Joseph Levada.

;-)

Me, too. The Bishop has sent his “regrets”. He has to have the air in his tires checked or something like that. Meanwhile, Fr. Jenkens has stated that it is an honor to have the POTUS address the Graduating Class, and the Graduating Class is debating whether, or not, they will attend; and if they attend, whether, or not, to carry banners and signs.

So, what do you think Fr. Jenkens odds of having his contract renewed are? I guess they can't really put a “For Sale Sign” in his yard like they do for coaches who poopoo on the carpet.

I hope they just don't show up! Knowing Obambi banners and signs will be banned.

the problem with many catholic voters and priests like this one is that they are ignoring their own religion.

Not one and I mean not one catholic should have voted for this phony buffoon , not one gun owner either so what on earth is going on in the north east part of this country.
That area should be solid GOP country and instead it is the most liberal whacked part of the country

But a black arm band would do.

Personally , I wish they wouldn’t go to the event. Just practicing what they were preached.

At this point it would almost be worth it to have him appear at ND and see the campus and national protests that would occur.

“Address the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal William Joseph Levada.”
Plleeeesssee!!! On 17 August 1995, Levada was appointed coadjutor archbishop of San Francisco, and on 27 December of the same year he succeeded John Raphael Quinn as the archbishop. Some of Levada’s most famous actions as Archbishop of San Francisco involved in the issues surrounding gay rights. In 1997, the City of San Francisco passed a law that all companies must provide the same benefits for domestic partners as for their spouses. Levada objected that this violated Catholic teaching on the unique status of marriage, but the city would not budge. Levada’s solution was seen as a compromise in some circles and a brilliant move in others: He ruled that unmarried employees of the archdiocese could designate “any” person sharing the same address as their beneficiary. This complied with the statute while avoiding a privileged status for unmarried domestic partnerships.

Levada also allowed a predominantly gay and lesbian parish in the Castro district, Most Holy Redeemer Church, to remain active in the San Francisco Diocese.

Levada is a shame on His Church. Benedict XVI knew or should have know about Levada’s approval of the desecration of His Most Holy Body by placing hosts into the mouths of practicing sodomites and lesbians.

By an unholy decree of Benedict XVI, this pretender rose to
the seat of Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The Vatican’s birds of a feather will do nothing to disturb communists both in and outside His Church from mocking Roman Catholic institutions of higher learning - further confusing and alienating His faithful from Holy Mother Church, while perfecting the party’s anti-America agenda.
