We had some ALC congregations in our area when I grew up, and most of them changed to ECLA too. They also “fell off the cliff” a number of years ago. Now, many members are changing to the LCMS.

The biggest problem I see in the LCMS now is the many aged
pastors still working fulltime. Our congregation is in the process of calling another pastor. Most of the candidates are well up in years and want to retire in the warmer climate Texas has, but who can blame them.

I am not that experienced in this aspect as when we needed a pastor, we had the seminary send us one. For me, personally, I left an apostate church (ELCA) and I want one who considers the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God. I don't want someone making it up as they go along, such as in the ELCA.

As strange as it may seem to some, I will also not go to a church if the pastor is a Democrat and that will indicate to me there is a disconnect between his theology and politics.

When the previous pastor came, it was about the same time we moved to this location and we made sure this guy was complete before we would move our membership here. We were blessed with a complete pastor. We've had two young ones and both have been what we want. We've been impressed with what we got from St. Louis.

I like your way of thinking. I am the same about pastors. All the past ones have been Republicans, so no problem with that. Our pastor once said the following (I had this as a tagline for some time) at a non church event:

"I don't know how any Christian can go to church on Sunday and vote for a democrat on Tuesday."

Nothing wrong with them becoming Ministers when they have accepted Jesus Christ, confessed their sins.

Dude...if this is your understanding of salvation, I would say that you are neither Lutheran or Christian. May God have mercy on your soul!
