VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- While apes evolved naturally into pre-human creatures, it was the will and desire of God that turned them into humans, an article in the Vatican newspaper said.
"The formation of human beings necessitated a particular contribution by God, though it remains that their emergence was brought about by natural causes" of evolution, it said.

It is a statement by Fiorenzo Facchini, a scientist with no doctrinal authority, in the course of an interview with the Vatican newspaper.
The newspaper interviews all sorts of people with all sorts of viewpoints, including novelists, film producers etc.
How is the Vatican denying the miracle of creation?
It’s pretty clear they’re denying it happened the way you seem to think it happened, based on your own personal interpretation of Genesis, but how are they denying that God formed man from clay?
When the catholic church is more science-friendly than you are, the problem may be yours...
To prevent duplication, please do not alter the headline. Thanks.
... and they think Protestants have erred.
Are “articles in the vatican newspaper” always official church doctrine? If so, something has gone horribly wrong.
Thanks. That answers the question I just asked in another comment, and it’s what I suspected, that this was not church doctrine.
Im not Catholic but you are so far off base its pathetic.
Scientifically speaking,
How does the Red Sea part? For that matter, how does manna fall from the heavens?
Spontaneous resurrection is a tricky science, too. As is instant sight to the blind, and the curing of disease by touch.
P.S. How does a virgin get pregnant - scientifically speaking, that is?
Good point.
i almost got sucked in by the headline too...pretty disengenuous...
im a catholic creationist, and i will be doggoned if im going to let some evolutionary biologist tell me how God created man...and then try to pass that off as the view of the church..
sheesh...

OK, maybe a tad too much fruit of the vine, but...
If the course of evolution would not have led to the emergence of the human specie without participation by the hand of God, why would anyone of any scientific integrity refer to the creatures from which God created man as ‘pre-human’? Wouldn’t it be more scientifically correct to refer to them as non-human terminal?
OK, I’ll have another, barkeep...
No they are not doctrine. This is not by any stretch of the imagination a statement of belief by the Church. It’s an interview in a newspaper. When you Benedict XVI say this then you can take it as Church Teaching.
“While apes evolved naturally into pre-human creatures”
Does beg the question, Why do we still have Apes?
You are a liar.
Read the article and then correct your post.
“How does the Red Sea part?”
Whack it with a stick.
“how does manna fall from the heavens?”
Gravity.
“How does a virgin get pregnant”
