Father Baker’s ludicrous (although obviously Roman Catholic) understanding of its priestcraft is unScriptural.

Amen.

I don't believe I've ever seen a RC claim it to be true until this thread. They do believe their clerics are "another Christ". That belief is clearly not Scriptural.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Maybe this belief, that the cleric has a Godly status, is why the abuse went on so long.

How many times did that actually happen?

Well, at least 508 times in Los Angeles alone, according to the July, 2007, settlement, and 45 more times according to the December, 2006, settlement.

And those are just the tip of the iceberg. The records have been sealed, however, according to the terms of the settlement. So we'll never know the truth.

Some of us have a pretty good idea of it, however.

Even when the Catholic Church is finally trying to make things right, it seems she is still abused, mocked, and scorned.

The purpose is not to indict or condemn the behavior. Rather, the purpose is to destroy the Catholic Church. There is no Christian charity in the hatred seen on this thread.

Lake Wales, FL. The pastor at the Church of the Nazarene has been charged with sexually assaulting a male 17-year-old youth leader three times in 2001. The Rev. Gene Francis, 52, of Lake Wales, was arrested Tuesday and charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor. (Sarasota Herald-Tribune, June 4, 2003)

Tuscon, AZ. The Rev. David Valencia, 47, assistant pastor of a Pentecostal church is expected in court Wednesday on rape charges issued by Pennsylvania authorities. In Pennsylvania, Valencia was an assistant pastor at Christ Church at Grove Farm, an interdenominational church that uses Anglican liturgy. The pastor of Christ Church, the Rev. John Guest, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Valencia was dismissed in late 2001 because he was found to have pornography on an office computer after he was warned about a similar incident months earlier. An associate pastor of a San Fernando Valley chapel was sentenced to 32 months in prison on Tuesday for failing to register as a sex offender. Ilger, a former second-grade teacher, was convicted in 1988 of molesting four students in his San Luis Obispo classroom. After being released from jail, Ilger and his family moved to Los Angeles, where he took a position with Hope Chapel of the Valley in Canoga Park. “We’ve lived and learned a painful lesson,” the Rev. Jeff Fischer of Hope Chapel said outside court. Fischer has said he and about 30 church elders knew that Ilger had molested young girls before he was hired.

Marty A. Hynes, 33, is charged with eight counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor, three counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and one count of attempted criminal sexual contact of a minor. Hynes was a youth pastor at the First Assembly of God church when the alleged incidents occurred, between July and December 2001. (Las Cruces Sun-News, March 24, 2003)
Trial of former youth pastor begins

Looks like these poor churches can’t afford to pay for counseling and a lifestyle upgrade for THEIR victims.

The revolting sin was on a HUGE scale in the RCC. You don’t see that widespread coverup and shuffling anywhere else. Much less where people look to the leaders to be Godly.

Wrong.

Sex abuse of minors in Protestant Churches

I wonder how many of the 508 victims in ONE settlement against the Los Angeles diocese remain Roman Catholic to this day?

I wonder how many of the 260 PER YEAR who are molested and abused in the Protestant churches remain whatever denomination they chose to follow?

No, how many times did that specifically happen, what you described:

Can we doubt the fear a child might experience being confronted with the sinful desires of a man who is considered to be "another Christ" by himself, by his church and by his own family?

How many times did THAT happen?

God forgive those who blame the lawyers, carelessly and cruelly ignoring the victims.

Did you actually read my list? I included others to blame in that secondary list, including the bishops.

Some of the lawyers have been working for justice, and they ought be commended. Some are simply riding the wave for their own benefit. It is the latter that drives up the settlement amounts and digs up cases that are so old that the dioceses cannot do anything to defend against the accusations.

I never accused nor ignored the victims.

You admit you do not have the specific facts, so what good are your claims such as this:

Can we doubt the fear a child might experience being confronted with the sinful desires of a man who is considered to be "another Christ" by himself, by his church and by his own family?

260 sex abuse cases a year

LOL. Thanks to you, too, for this helpful fact.

Almost 600 cases admitted to as "guilty" and paid for by the Los Angeles diocese in one city alone!

Compared to 260 "accusations" by a variety of Protestant churches against a variety of individuals, staff, even members of the congregation.

$720,000,000 admitted to and paid out by the diocese of ONE CITY!

Where's any sense of propriety on the part of the RCC and Catholic apologists?

But the cover up and the cover up of the cover up which went on in many places in many times that is revolting. Biblically, they should have been out of the church until a true repentance was seen. Intead, they were just transferred to a new flock of innocent and trusting sheep. That is the issue. The revolting sin was on a HUGE scale in the RCC. You don’t see that widespread coverup and shuffling anywhere else. Much less where people look to the leaders to be Godly.

Amen!

Looks like someone can't read very well. Those are just the cases covered by clergy abuse insurance. Those ONLY represent claims. The ones I posted were prosecuted for crimes because their churches were too poor to sue.

If the perp wasn’t Catholic, it’s all foul lies. Where’s your propriety?!? Bow your head and take your bludgeoning!

when an evangelical sola scriptural holier than thou protestant comes on FR to gloat over the failings of the Church,

No one is gloating.

most especially when protestants turn a blind eye toward their own egregious child predators.

And no Protestant turns a blind eye. The facts are that in Protestant churches any wrong-doing is investigated by the police. If a minister is accused, more often than not he is relieved of his pulpit. If he's found guilty, he's put in jail.

Same for the staff and janitors and office workers in many of your "examples."

Whereas in the RCC, as we've seen in Los Angeles, sexually-sinful priests were suffled around from parish to parish, for years on end, only to molest again.

Pitiful.

I bow to no one but Christ. Certainly never to a phony literary invention that wasn't even human in the mind of its creator.

And there are many on this board that will clap and cheer every step of the way....

Who?

The RCC is deeply flawed, but I don't see any who want it destroyed by the state. Although the irony is a bit much given it's history of persecution when it was an arm of the state.
