What a crock. I can’t believe that the monarchy has such a restriction. Especially considering that 90% of the UK is nonreligious at all these days.
Can’t marry a Catholic? Sheesh.
Absolutely! (/sarcasm)
What does it profit a man (or woman) if he (or her spouse) gain the world (or England) but lose his (or her) immortal soul? A cynical materialistic choice made worse by the fact that this guy’s never going to be king.
Freep-mail me to get on or off my pro-life and Catholic List:
Please ping me to note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of interest.
Couldn’t he find a non-Catholic girl rolling drunk down the street on her way to the abortion clinic to marry?
It seems Catholics are good enough to marry but not good enough to be royals.
The secularization of the West has brought some bad problems, but it has had the good effect of mellowing religious divisions and intolerance.
My wife was raised Catholic but became Anglican--I am Anglican--after we were married. Because of their parents' preferences, half of our grandchildren are being raised Catholic, half Anglican.
The Church of the Middle Ages became horribly corrupt. E.g., when torture chambers are marintained in the name of Jesus Christ, you know something has gone terribly wrong. The Protestant Revolution was necessary and inevitable to correct this horrible corruption, though it precipitated violence and bloody warfare and the Protestants proved as corruptable, as capable of violence, and as talented at getting completely off the beam as anyone. The Enlightenment did, to a large extent, correct the corruption and bring Christians back to the beam.
In my opinion, the secularization of the West is dangerous and has brought some very bad things into Western Civilization, but the Enlightenment has brought wonderful things, including a priceless focus on the teachings and presence of Jesus Christ.
What's truly astonishing is that Europe, in its determination to avoid the horrors of the past, including religious intolerance, fanaticism, violence, and warfare, has invited into its midst millions of the most intolerant, violent, and war-prone religious fanatics on the planet.
I am pretty certain that Princess Anne’s two children do not posess titles of any sort. So, I presume Peter Philips does not get any stipend either.
I agree with other posters here - it’s really ludicrous in the 21st century for England to have a law barring Catholics from the throne or from the royal family, but not mention of non-Christian faiths.
He’s ninth or so in line for the throne? Hardly seems likely it ever would be an issue.
Lemme see, “defender of the faith” is officially broadened so that its scope includes ISLAM, but Catholics are still singled out by the 1701 Acts of Settlement?
England is just pleading for God’s retribution.
So she was converted, but not to christianity?
Eleventh in line of succession? Like the guy’s actually got a chance to become king!
A rare occurrence these days, for sure.
Sort of reminds me of the Cold War days. For all those who fled communism for freedom, there was always some nut like Kim Philby who decided to go in the opposite direction.
She's just boarded a sinking ship.
I been told by both Protestants and Catholics all of the Trinity Churches today believe the same so there should be no problem!
Stuff and nonsense. She doesn't take her faith very seriously at all.
