Pro-Abortion Catholic Politicians Warned Against Receiving Communion During Papal Visit

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 15, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - American Life League has warned pro-abortion Catholic politicians not to politicize the Eucharist in a nation-wide, full page message addressed to Pope Benedict XVI.

"First of all, welcome from the bottom of our hearts," says the ad. "From us all, thank you for the blessing of your presence. But most of all, please protect the body of Christ from the bloodstained hands of pro-abortion 'Catholics.'"

On April 17, Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate Mass in Washington, DC where pro-abortion Catholic politicians are expected to attempt to receive communion.

"Pro-abortion Catholics, who are not really Catholics at all, are opportunists of the worse sort. It would not surprise us at all if they seek to validate their position by exploiting the Holy Father's visit by receiving Holy Communion from the pope," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. "Such public figures as well as organizations like Catholics for a Free Choice have been scandalizing Catholics for years by publicly flaunting their radical, pro-abortion position while receiving Communion. This is a sacrilege which we pray will not occur during the Holy Father's Mass."

American Life League's ad informs the pope that a "great majority" of Catholic politicians openly support legalized abortion. The ad presents the pictures of 21 of the "most egregious offenders" and American Life League expresses concern that at least some of these pro-abortion Catholics may try to receive the Sacrament during the papal Mass.

The message of the ad is based on Catholic Church law, specifically Canon Law 915, which states that those who "obstinately persist in grave sin are not to be admitted to communion."

"Not only is performing or receiving an abortion a grave sin, but so is helping someone obtain one either by driving them to an appointment, paying for it, or working to make or keep it legal," Brown stated.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that Kennedy and Kerry will be #1 and #2 in line for Communion.I hope His Holiness pulls a John Paul II when he publicly chastised that Sandanista government official who was also a priest.

Is the American Life League affiliated with the Catholic Church?

I’d love to see JF’ingK try to suck up to Pope Benedict. When he was just plain Ratzinger, he’d have kicked F’ing’s apostate @ss back to Vietnam. Now, he’ll just call down lightning.

According to its website American Life League is “Catholic in it’s philosophy,” but I don’t believe that they are specifically affiliated with the Catholic Church (I pinged FReeper lesforlife who has done a lot of work with them).

However, like Priests for Life, they are certainly not “exclusively Catholic.” Catholics understand that unity with Evangelical Protestants is critical in the fight for innocent life and Protestants I know feel the same.

I’ve said it before, Judie Brown and American Life League are the real deal. She takes the battle over children’s lives to the doorstep of the enemy. She hits them where it hurts most: their ravenous, bloated egos.

Kennedy and Kerry (along with most Dems and liberals) oppose the war and expound on the fact that we have lost 4,000 of our military in Iraq. As tragic as that is, and as sorrowful as we can all feel, it is ironic that these two men support abortion. The 4,000 who have honorably given their lives chose to serve our country. There is heartache and grief for them throughout this country, and rightly so.

Yet, statistics that appeared in a post on the FR last week stated that 1 million babies are aborted yearly in this country. One million innocent children who made no choice to die, whose lives were just as sacred, and who Kennedy and Kerry chose to ignore. These are children of Americans, too, for whom no liberal sheds a tear nor seems to have any heartache and grief.
