Childish behavior |

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.
"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."
H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.
"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."
Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
That ain't the half of it!
People who have escaped the cults and brought their abuses to light, such as Flora Jessup (see above), are under a sentence of death through the Mormon doctrine of Blood Atonement.
You can find out more about Blood Atonement HERE, HERE, and HERE,
“because they arent true Mormons.”
They aren’t. Either they never were members of the LDS church in the first place, or they have been excommunicated.
Poor Resty...
Her replies just evaporate!
So instead of throwing them out, they will instead make home life unbearable for the child until he runs away. This bill accomplishes nothing.
Popcorn is ready on a snowy day! Good coffee too.
I am at zero tolerance with all the childish behavior that follows LDS-related discussions.
Everyone: discuss the issues all you want, but do NOT make it personal.
I must have missed the PERSONAL part of my post.
How many miles are you from polygamy central, ground zero of the cult of Mormonism, that practices the commandment of Celestial Marriage?
It’s rampant even in Salt Lake City. At least perhaps the powers that be in this State might quit hiding their heads in the sand.
I saw this on TV once. Can’t remember the show though.
1. Argue your points on thread not by abuse reports. The moderators don't appreciate posters trying to win their arguments by having the other guy's removed.
2. It is borderline hate mongering to smear an entire belief system by the behavior of a few, e.g. Baptists v. Phelps. Stop it.
3. Johnny one notes that go from thread to thread on the same subject, stirring up trouble, are asking for it. Stop it.
got any flavored coffee???
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
In my experience with the men, I have determined they all are true believers in Joseph Smith, the BOM, the D&C and all the rest. They compete for the girls in a strange Prophet (profit) driven way. I truly find it hard to believe that the main stream Mormons really believe in the same way, however when I asked a stalwart LDS member here regarding that, he said that if the lord commanded polygamy again, he would obey. Sad part of that is that none of the young women would be safe.
Mormon doctrine of Blood Atonement.
First of all there is no such thing as Mormon Doctrine!
This is a lye because it was NEVER DOCTRINE of the Church and all this guilt by association is not true, because this organization started independent and never was a break off and what this post is trying to do is imply to smear the LDS with what ever pops in one head!
The would be called yellow journalism!
Inflammatory, irresponsible reporting and in this case working to incite hatred of the LDS.
Book mark
Just add a bit of good bourbon on a snowy day.
I have my genealogy posted on my homepage. It is filled with men who had multiple wives. It’s so sad to read the journals of these young women who were forced to wed elderly men with multiple wives.
It is sad to read journals of the older wives who were abandoned by their husbands for younger wives. It’s sad to read the plight of the men who were forced into attempting to feed all these hungry mouths in the heart of the desert wilderness.
It hasn’t left us yet. Part of the reason it still exists is the secrecy. The admonition to “not talk about it.” I suppose soon we will face the irony of accepting the horrible practice because to refute it would be bordering on “hate mongering.”
