Don Guido (Marini, new Master of Ceremonies)

Don Guido

The current Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Genoa, Monsignor Guido Marini - who also is the Prefect of the ancient Cathedral of San Lorenzo and Archdiocesan Master of Ceremonies (Cerimoniere), as well as spiritual director of the Archdiocesan seminary and professor of Canon Law in several institutions -, has been named by several Italian journalists as the man who will replace Archbishop Piero Marini (no relation) as Master of Pontifical Liturgical Ceremonies.

First, Andrea Tornielli, on the September 2 edition of Il Giornale; now, Sandro Magister. The most interesting report, though, is that of a local Genoese news site, Primocanale, which details several changes in the local Curia, related to the probable departure of Don Guido Marini for Rome - and which would seem to indicate that the Papal move is imminent.

FYI: Rocco Palma at Whispers says the move is imminent and that Piero Marini will be given a post in line for an eventual “red hat.” See WITL.

Bless his heart, he looks just like Bishop Jugis.

Here's Guido Marini announcing that the current Archbishop of Genova, Archbishop Angelo Bagnasco, had been appointed to the see by Pope Benedict XVI in September 2006.

Any posting now, on Rorate Coeli or FR, we’ll find out that Archbishop Marini was expelled from the Vatican because of the blue vestments the Austrians designed for the Papal Visit and being sworn-in as the full time Freemasonry Supervisor for the Confiscation and Combustion of Altar Cards in Motu Proprio Parishes. Or maybe the theories will be even more exotic!

Prediction: Black Helicopter Alert!

Somehow, and I don’t mean this in any way as a slur on those of Italian descent, the name “Guido” gives me a great deal of peace of mind regarding the future of Papal liturgies should this rumor prove to be true. Parish liturgical committees pushing dancing girls? Father dressed as a witch with purple hair on October 31? Send Guido to take care of the problem.
