In the West, the Latin language functioned as a kind of iconostasis of language.

Interesting way of putting it.

He's right on the ICEL texts. They were an appalling "theft" from Catholics. I think he's right in not spending a lot of time trying to assign blame, but we do have to make sure that those responsible for it (some of whom are still with us) never get near a liturgical text again.

Livius, I about choked when I read that quote, because this very same thought came to me about a month ago while writing about the Latin liturgy...namely, that the Byzantine liturgy effects by space what the classical Roman liturgy (and particularly the silent Canon) effects by language.

Guess I definitely can’t take credit for that thought now! LOL
