>>Hehe. I wasn’t born then.<<

Braggin’, braggin’, braggin’!

I was only a year old, but our old Polish nuns took a few years after VII to get with the program.
It was in 2nd grade that the habits got above the ankles.

I have to say though, no one look more angelic than those nuns at the “Independent Catholic Church”. They were all young and happy. I wish they could have come back to where they belonged, under Rome.

>>”Religion” in itself doesn’t. People DEPENDING on their religion (liturgy, ritual, sacraments, good works)for salvation does.

Salvation comes through Jesus .. alone. The other stuff is important and a lovely way to worship, until you lose Jesus and the message of Salvation in there somewhere.<<

We have a loving Father.
I am a loving mother.

If my children show that they love me in different ways, I don’t hold it against them.

Our Father is no less than a good mother on Earth. I think that some of us are going to be really surprised about who we meet in heaven. I’ll wave at ya from the Catholic side, God willing!

I don’t think there’s any “Independent Catholic Church” around here. I’ll practice my Latin saying some prayers for them, though!

I think what you don’t understand is that our religion IS the Cross. No Catholic believes they are trusting in “the Church” outside of the entire framework of salvation, starting with Moses, the Jews, the Incarnation, the Cross and the Resurrection. The Church is what brings it all together and puts it in a central place and transmits it from generation to generation.

The problem with the charismatic movement, as well as protestant parallels, is that they place way, way, way too much emphasis on religious or spiritual feelings. It's not about the feelings; it's about belief and conviction. If you think hooting and hollering all the time is part and parcel of being a true believer, you're going to start trying to force your self to have a religious ecstasy, which just doesn't work. If you start thinking like it's all about the feelings, what's going to happen when the feelings dry up. That's why we talk about "dry periods" and "dark nights of the soul" and the importance of not letting them make one lapse in despair. It's not healthy to but too much stock on feelings, which are fickle and capricious.

Thank you! I couldn't agree with you more. Sadly, we live in a society that is all about 'feelings'. I've met 'former' Catholics who left the Church because they preferred to be in a setting 'alive with the Holy Spirit' (their words, not mine). I do, however, believe, that over the course of time, even these souls eventually feel called back to a more disciplined reverence for our Lord, through the Sacraments. Until then, they are in my prayers.

I was involved in the Catholic Charismatic movement for years, until its proponents began to stray off into the jing-bushes after the Wiccans and goddess worshippers. Some parts of it were valid and fruitful. I wouldn’t take a million bucks for the experience.

Yes.

I've been reading Romans recently, too. It's spelled out plainly by Paul.

I encourage everyone to read Romans - Jew, Gentile, Christian, pagan. It will allow you to make an informed decision about what Christianity is all about and give Christians the strength and power to overcome areas of sin in order that you may be victorious and living according to the New Nature.

Who you are determines what you can do. You need to learn who you are, Christian.

Honestly we can differ, I don’t care for anything with “we”s “me”s or “I”s....I find it horizontalizes what should be verticle
