Bogotá, Nov. 03, 2006 (CNA) - Bishop Ramon Dario Molina of Neiva expressed disgust this week over a photographer who managed to sneak past security to shoot photos of a nude model at the local Cathedral.
Bishop Molina said the photographer deserves to spend a few hours in jail for the stunt, which has caused outrage among the residents of Neiva in southern Colombia.
Its disrespectful. It merits at least a few hours in jail so they will learn their lesson, he told reporters.
The photographer, identified as Reynel Llanos, chose the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Neiva to carry out the nude photo shoot for a magazine.
Although Llanos has apologized and said his intention was not to offend anyone, it is still not clear whether the pictures will be published.
Sneaking past security at the Cathedral, Llanos and his model climbed the stairs of the bell tower where Llanos shot the photos. They were discovered by other journalists who were reporting on an emergency drill at another building in the Cathedral plaza.
How can I judge the offense if I cannot see the picture?
Nice try. :)
Disgusting. I can't remember if that couple's stunt in St. Patrick's was an offense for which they were arrested. The guy in the stunt died later IIRC, not that it was related but makes one wonder. Nobody should do anything in a church without first getting permission from the person in charge UNLESS the rules are well known in advance. Still, if you are planning on taking photos in any church other than a tourist attraction (like the Vatican, it is commonly done although there may be rules during mass and other special events) where you don't use models, you should ask. Oops. I did it, several years ago, but not with impropriety, guess I didn't know any better at the time. The young priest posed before the altar, and I got a few nice shots of him and people with him and the late afternoon light reflecting through the west windows of the interior of the church.
