"Nothing is so consoling, so piercing, so thrilling, so overcoming, as the Mass, said as it is among us. I could attend Mass forever, and not be tired. It is not a mere form of words; it is a great action. The greatest action that can be on earth. It is. . .the vocation of the Eternal."

"All whatsoever you do in word or work, do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
giving thanks to God and the Father by Jesus Christ our Lord," --- Blessed Apostle Saint Paul

C hrist is our Savior, and the priests of the Church are made rich in Him. The Church is blessed abundantly in and through Our Lord Jesus Christ

T oday we commemorate the Feast of Saint Birgitta of Sweden, who on the death of her husband, Prince Ulfo , embraced a life of prayer and penance. Favored by Almighty God with wonderful visions and revelations, she founded the Religious Order of the Most Holy Savior. With her daughter Saint Catherine, she made numerous pilgrimages to various sanctuaries in Italy and in Palestine. The secrets of Heaven were manifested to her in many revelations which are referred to in the Collect of the Mass, She exerted her influence in the cause of the Church's reform in the courts, episcopal palaces, the abbeys and even at the Holy See. She died at Rome, July 2, 1373. Her relics were brought back to Sweden by her daughter a year later. She was canonized by Pope Boniface IX in 1391.

GOSPEL - Blessed Apostle Saint Matthew 9:1-8-46

† Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Matthaeum.
In illo témpore: Ascendens Jesus in navículam, transfretávit, et venit in civitátem suam. Et ecce offerébant ei paralyticum jacéntem in lecto. Vidéntes autem turbæ timuérunt, at glorificavérunt Deum, qui dedit potestátem talem homínibus.

† Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Blessed Apostle Saint Matthew
At that time, Jesus entering into a boat, passed over the water and came into His own city. And behold they brought Him one sick of the palsy lying on a bed and Jesus seeing their faith, said to the sick man of the palsy: "Be of good heart, son, thy sins are forgiven thee." And behold some of the Scribes said within themselves: He blasphemeth. And Jesus seeing their thoughts, said: "Why do you think evil in your hearts? whether is it easier to say: Thy sins are forgiven thee or to say: Arise and walk? But that you may know that the Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins" ( then said He to the man sick of the palsy ) : "Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house." And he rose, and went into his house. And the multitude seeing it, feared, and glorified God, who had given such power to men.

Homily The Eighteenth Sunday After Pentecost
Missa Da Pacem

The Preeminence of the Traditional Mass

Editor's Note: In Father Louis Campbell's [ homily ] for the Eighteenth Sunday After Pentecost, he presents his last sermon that he will be sending for he is experiencing some health problems due to the stress that has taken its toll. It is part and parcel of these dire times because there are so few traditional, loyal priests such as Father Campbell left. Please keep him in your prayers for several of our traditional priests have died off over the last few years, and, though we have many young ones who are doing such an excellent job, there are so few in the vineyard to meet the needs of the growing numbers of Catholics returning to tradition. The reason is that more and more of the laity recognize the conciliar church is not Catholic, and therefore seek to return to their Catholic roots. Why is it so few Novus Ordo 'priests' and 'bishops' don't recognize this? That is the million dollar question. Father Campbell is the perfect example of one ordained in 1961 in the old true rite of Holy Orders, who realized he could not truly be "a priest forever according to the Order of Melchisedech offered to Thee, a holy sacrifice, a spotless Victim" in the faux Novus Ordo religion of the conciliar church. He returned and so can many other priests, if they are only honest with themselves, and would return if they had the guts to face the truth. The truth is that most are so comfortable in their lukewarm zones that they do not have the fortitude to do what Father Campbell did. We pray that these men stuck in the Novus Ordo will break the shackles of blind obedience and gain the grace and resolve to leave the false conciliar church. They have every reason as Father points out in his sermon, citing the esteemed priest Reverend Doctor Nicholas Gihr from his masterpiece book The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass written in 1929. It should be a wake-up call to everyone wearing the roman collar of "The Preeminence of the Traditional Mass."

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

While it stands to reason one would be foolish to choose a counterfeit painting over a masterpiece, it makes no sense that one would opt for a counterfeit, man-made synthetic, albeit gutted, useless and fruitless rite that gravely offends God to replace a divinely-ordained sublime Sacrifice that God Himself established as the only true worship acceptable in the New and Eternal Testament.

"In the Roman ( Latin ) Rite only the Traditional Latin Mass is worthy of such exalted mysteries. The Traditional Mass schools us in the obedience of Jesus Christ, trains us in humility and the spirit of sacrifice, and raises us up to the portals of Heaven. We are freed from the wanton spirit of the world and made ready for the company of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints. We are freed from the heavy shackles of our sins and are enabled to take flight spiritually."

Newly ordained priests in the Traditional Roman Rite were to take extreme care in the celebration of Holy Mass, particularly on the day when they were privileged to offer it for the first time. With trembling hands they picked up the bread and wine, which were to become the Body and Blood of the Lord. Carefully and distinctly they pronounced the words of consecration, fearing that some unfortunate mistake would affect the validity of the Mass. They were treading on Holy Ground.

Rev. Dr. Nicholas Gihr, quoting Pope St. Leo the Great, and writing before the heretical teachings that were introduced into the Church with Vatican II, such as the new doctrine of the Two Valid Covenants, explains the significance of the Sacrifice of the God-Man, Jesus Christ:

"The offering of the bloody Sacrifice of the Cross constitutes the conclusion and crowning of the earthly, as well as the foundation of the heavenly, activity and efficacy of Christ for the salvation of mankind. - In the Sacrifice of the Cross all sacrifices prior to the coming of Christ have their fulfillment and by means of it have attained their end ( purpose ).

"On the Cross there was but one sacrifice ( hostia singularis ) offered to God for the redemption of the world, and the death of Christ, the true sacrificial Lamb, announced so many centuries in advance, placed the children of promise in the liberty of faith. Then also was the New Covenant sealed, and the heirs of the eternal kingdom were inscribed with the blood of Christ. Then was evidently effected the transition from the Law to the Gospel, from the Synagogue to the Church, from the many legal sacrifices to the one Sacrifice ( a multis sacrificiis ad unam hostiam ), in such a manner that, when the Lord gave up His spirit, the mystical veil which concealed the innermost part of the Temple and its holy mystery from view, was suddenly and violently rent in twain from top to bottom. Then truth abolished the figures ( figures veritas auferebat ), and the prophecies became superfluous after their fulfillment.'

"The tearing asunder of the veil before the entrance to the Holy of Holies of the Old Dispensation was a sign that the Old Covenant ceased when the New and eternal Covenant of grace had been instituted in the blood of Christ. With the ending of the Old Covenant, the ancient sacrifices also ceased, because they had become useless" ( The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, B. Herder Book Co., 1939, p. 79).

Father Gihr establishes the essential connection between the Blood of Christ, which He shed upon the Cross, and the Blood of the chalice which He offered at the Last Supper :

"Our Savior named His blood, contained and shed in the chalice, the blood of the New Testament ( Blessed Apostle Saint Matthew 26:28 ). The word testament has here a twofold meaning; namely, covenant and legacy. - Christ is the mediator of a better covenant, which is established on better promises ( Hebrews 8:6 ), and that covenant is the new covenant of grace.

"This covenant was formed mainly at the Last Supper and at the same time sealed with Christ's Eucharistic Blood in the chalice; it then obtained by the shedding of the Blood of Christ its valid and complete confirmation. Thus Christ's Blood was equally as well in the chalice as on the Cross the Blood of the Covenant, that is, the Blood in which the new Covenant of Grace was established. Therefore, the Blood of Christ must not only not have first been sacrificed on the Cross, but previously offered in the chalice as sacrificial blood. This is required by the contrast here evidently made between the establishment of the old and the new covenants; for the words of our Savior: 'This is My Blood, the blood of the new covenant,' contain a distinct allusion to the words: 'This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord hath made with you' ( Exodus 24:8 ), the words spoken by Moses after the establishment of the covenant of the Old Law, when he sprinkled the people with blood" ( p. 96 ).

In the Roman ( Latin ) Rite only the Traditional Latin Mass is worthy of such exalted mysteries. We are freed from the heavy shackles of our sins and are enabled to take flight spiritually.

Father Gihr speaks of the heavenly banquet of the Eucharist in which we share :

"In connection with this Sacrifice there is spread a banquet - the Communion of the admirable Body and Blood of Christ. To partake of this food of God, to sit at this banquet of love, all indeed are invited; but among the attending guests, the honored and preferred are the 'poor' in spirit, the humble and the lowly, - in short, all that have emptied their hearts and divested them of the love of the goods of this earth, and who, therefore, hunger and thirst after the imperishable food of Heaven. These 'poor in spirit will eat' at the table of the Lord and be 'filled,' that is, they will be strengthened and consoled, be replenished with joy and be loaded with graces; refreshed and regaled with heavenly nourishment, 'they will sing praise to the Lord whom they sought,' and of whose unspeakable sweetness they have tasted. Therefore, their hearts will live eternally; for whosoever eats of the living and life-giving bread of the Eucharist 'will not die forever' ( Blessed Apostle Saint John 6 )" - ( At pages 90-91 ).

Father Gihr finishes his monumental work on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with these words from the Apocalypse:

"To the Divine Lamb, Who was sacrificed for us and Who, with His Blood, hath purchased us from all tribes and languages and peoples and nations, be praise and honor and benediction and thanksgiving and power and glory for all eternity, Amen! Alleluia!" ( Apocalypse 5:6,9;19,14 ).

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Father Louis J. Campbell

Editor's Note: With sadness, as we mentioned above, this will be Father's last original sermon. He has sent over 200 and we will continue to bring them to you for each Sunday from his best ones for that particular Sunday. He writes, "With this sermon I must reluctantly call an end to sending my sermons. My health is suffering and I am under a doctor’s care and undergoing a series of tests at the present time. Stress is a factor here, as I am under more stress than I am able to manage successfully. I think the prudent thing to do is to cut back on some of my commitments and 'rest from my labors' for a while." We thank him for his many years of dedication and most succinct, inspiring sermons that have strengthened the faith of readers. If only the true Church had more men of Father Campbell's caliber and commitment to Christ, the Novus Ordo would soon fade into oblivion. To Father for his contributions over the years, we thank him profusely and are indebted to him for not only being able to bring these excellent sermons to you but for strengthening our own faith. You are always, always in our daily prayers, dear Father, and thank you, good and faithful servant, for your fiat to our Lord and our Lady o'er these many years.

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, ever-lasting God: Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, are one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out with one voice saying: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY...

PRAYER FOR HOLY PRIESTS

O my Jesus, I thank Thee, that Thou art truly, actually, and substantially, human and divine,
present here in the mystery of the Sacrament of the Altar.

Thou hast said, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you."
See, Lord, I come and knock. I ask Thee:
Send us holy priests!

O my Jesus, Thou hast said: "Whatever you ask the Father in MY Name, it shall be granted you."
See, Lord, in Thy Name I ask Thy Father the grace:
Send us holy priests!

O my Jesus, Thou hast said: "Heaven and earth shall pass away but My Word shall not pass away."
See, Lord, in trust of the infallibility of Thy Word, I ask Thee:
Send us holy priests!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee!
Please bless Thy priests!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, it is not possible for Thee to have no sympathy for us wretches.
Have mercy on us sinners, and grant us through the threefold full of grace, beautiful, and
Immaculate Heart of Mary, Thy Mother and ours, the grace to which we pray to Thee. Amen.

O Mary, Queen of the clergy, pray for us:
obtain for us many holy priests.

O Lord, grant unto Thy Church saintly priests and fervent religious.

Send forth, O Lord, laborers into Thy harvest.

O Lord, grant us priests!
O Lord, grant us holy priests!
O Lord, grant us many holy priests!
O Lord, grant us many holy religious vocations!

Pope Saint Pius X, pray for us.

Prayer for the Universal Church

Pray for those who have been wandering and wondering in the conciliar desert for lo over 40 years. Pray for the conversion of the Novus Ordo hierarchy from the highest to the lowest echelons of the clergy, who, in the same manner as the Arian bishops, have apostasized from the True Church which Jesus Christ established on the Rock of Peter. Pray that they will wake from their devastating slumber, cast off their lukewarmness, and demand the unadulterated dogmatic Faith with no novelties, no ecumenism, no modernism, no anything but truly Catholic, embodied by true shepherds who will mandate the only possible Catholic worship - the true and continual sacrifice: the Traditional Latin Mass, set in stone for all time by Pope St. Pius V.

O God, our refuge and our strength, smite those failing to lead Thy Holy Church,
by and through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel; the immaculate Virgin Mother Mary; Beloved Saint Joseph; Thy blessed apostles Peter and Paul; and all the saints.
Hear our fervent prayers for more holy priests consecrated according to Thy will;
Provide Your Church leadership with the courage to convert all heretics, pagans, false idolaters and false god worshipers, and especially non-Catholics who refuse to accept the One True Church founded by Your Son and our Redeemer, Christ Jesus;
We pray for a sacred reformation of our Holy Mother Church - according to Your servant, Pope Pius XII in his Apostolic Constitution Sacramentum Ordinis
.
We pray for these intercessions through the mercy and grace of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
Amen.

Prayer for Heretics and Schismatics
Amen.

Let us pray for heretics and schismatics, that our Lord and God may deliver them from all their errors, and vouchsafe to recall them to their holy Mother, the Catholic and Apostolic Church. Almighty, eternal God, Who dost save all, and willest not that any should perish, look upon the souls deceived by diabolical fraud, that, abandoning all heretical depravity, the hearts of the erring may regain sanity and return to the unity of truth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who livest and reignest, with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

CALENDAR of the SAINTS

08 October 2006 A.D.

Saint Birgitta of Sweden, Widow
Daughter of Birger Persson, the governor and provincial judge of Uppland, and of Ingeborg Bengtsdotter. Her father was one of the greatest landowners in the country, her mother was known widely for her piety, and the family were descendants of the Swedish royal house. Related to Saint Ingrid.
Saint Birgitta began receiving visions, most of the Crucifixion, at age seven. Her mother died c.1315 when the girl was about twelve years old, and she was raised and educated by an equally pious aunt. In 1316, at age thirteen, she wed prince Ulfo of Nercia in an arranged marriage. Mother of eight children including Saint Catherine of Sweden; some of the other children ignored the Church.
Friend and counselor to many priests and theologians of her day. Chief lady-in-waiting to Queen Blanche of Namur in 1335, from which position she counseled and guided the Queen and King Magnus II. After Ulfo's death in 1344 following a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, she pursued a religious life, for which she was harassed by others at the court. She eventually renounced her title of princess. Franciscan tertiary. Cistercian. Mystic, visionary, and mystical writer. She recorded the revelations given her in her visions, and these became hugely popular in the Middle Ages.
Saint Birgitta founded the Order of the Most Holy Savior at Vadstena in 1346. It received confirmation from Pope Urban V in 1370, and survives today, though few houses remain. Saint Birgitta regularly traveled to Rome, and additional Italian holy sites, as well as the Holy Lands.
Saint Birgitta chastened and counseled kings and Popes Clement VI, Urban VI, and Gregory XI, urging them to return to Rome from Avignon. Encouraged all who would listen to meditate on the Passion, and of Jesus Crucified.
Saint Birgitta died on 23 July 1373 at Rome, Italy, and was buried in 1374 at the Vadstena, Sweden convent she founded.

Saint Ambrose Sansedoni of Siena
The son of a book illuminator, he was born so badly deformed that his mother gave him off to the care of a nurse. The nurse claimed that the only time the child was peaceful was in the local Dominican church, especially when near the altar of relics. Legend says that one day in church, the nurse covered the baby's face with a scarf; an unknown pilgrim told her, "Do not cover that child's face. He will one day be the glory of this city." A few days later the child suddenly stretch out his twisted limbs, pronounced the name "Jesus", and all deformity left him.
A pious child, getting up during the nights to pray and meditate. At age two he was given the choice of two of his father's books - and chose the one about saints. From age seven he daily recited the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin. Charitable, and even when young he worked with the poor, the abandoned, and the sick.
When he announced he wanted to join the preaching friars, his parents and friends tried to talk him out of it. But Ambrose had heard the call, and joined the friars in Siena in 1237 on his 17th birthday.
Studied in Paris, France, and Cologne, Germany with Saint Thomas Aquinas and Blessed Pope Innocent V under Saint Albert the Great. Taught in Cologne. Ambrose wanted to write, but saw the greatness of Saint Thomas, decided he could not match it, and devoted himself to preaching.
Worked on diplomatic missions for popes and secular rules. Evangelized in Germany, France, and Italy. Mystic with deep contemplative prayer life. Received ecstacies. Visionary. Known to levitate when preaching, and was seen circled in a mystic light in which flew bright birds.

Saint Amor of Aquitaine

Saint Badilo

Saint Benedicta

Saint Demetrius of Sermium
Born wealthy and raised Christian. Soldier. Deacon. Martyred in the persecutions of emperor Maximian. His story was extremely popular in the Middle Ages. Reported to have appeared during a battle in 586, two centuries after his death, to help defend Thessalonika. Over 200 churches in the Balkans are known to have been dedicated to him. Saint Demetrius was run through with spears c.306 at Sirmium ( in modern Serbia ) - refusing to deny the Most Holy Trinity. His relics were originally housed at Sirmium and Thessalonika where they were reported to exude holy oil; a bone relic is reported to still be in a monastery on Mount Athos.

Pelagia immediately converted, confessed, was baptized, turned away from her former life, moved to Jerusalem, and lived as a hermit the rest of her days, possibly wearing men's clothes so people would leave her alone. Saint Pelagia is the patron saint of actresses.

Saint Peter of Seville

Saint Reparata
Baptized very young during the 3rd century in Caesarea, Palestine. At age 11, Saint Reparata was arrested and tortured for her faith during the persecution of Emperor Decius. She was thrown into a furnace to die. She sat in the flames for a while, emerging unharmed. Rather than see this as divine intervention, the authorities simply offered her another chance to deny Jesus Christ as God; when she refused, she was beheaded.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with confidence, I fly to you, O virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

Theoden,

Glad to include your name to the list. There is so much goodness in the internet that it would time ten lifetimes to absorb the wonders He placed there for each of us to share the glory of His Name to the ignorant, heathen, pagan, false idolaters, and sinners among us who dress in the mantle of shepards of the faithful, as well as those who falsely claim to be 'Catholic'.

Your brother in Jesus Christ,
Robert

October the month of the Holy Rosary.

This scene from the Sistine Chapel depicts poor souls being pulled into Heaven by Rosary beads. Please pray for our Pope Benedict XVI and all Catholics so that they may see the truth and live it in Christ's name, through Mary.

I love St. Birgitta. May many come to love her as their friend in heaven (a friend who kicks you in the past and tells you to fly right!).

Theoden,

My note to you in Post #9 was so poorly written that I thought you justly deserve better:

Glad to include your name to the list. There is so much goodness within the internet that it would take ten lifetimes to absorb the inspired writings He caused to be placed there for each of us.

It is the calling of each Catholic to follow in the footpaths of His disciples; that being the sharing our knowledge of His wonders and love with the ignorant, heathen, pagan and false god idolaters - converting them to the One True Faith.

God knows our work is compounded by the fact that we live in a House of sinners who daily, and wrongly, don the mantle of Shepards of the faithful, while verbally, and with pen, display their total contempt for all that is 'Catholic'.

Your brother in Jesus Christ,

Robert

Do you suppose it would be permissible to lie down on the floor so as one might fully appreciate the glorious depictions on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?

Thank you. I appreciate the nice response that you gave me. I am only 21, and I have only attended a Tridentine Mass once, and a Stations of the Cross in Latin once. My Monsignor was trained pre-Vatican II and was capable of this. I feel that I missed out on a lot by not being able to experience the "Universal Nature" that the old Mass provides the Catholic Church.

If the rumors hold true, and Pope Benedict XVI allows for the widespread use of the Latin Mass, I will start attending regularly if they are done at my Church, otherwise, I will stay with the Norvus Ordo Mass that we currently have, as I am loyal to my Church and I am not a fan of "shopping around". I agree with the Holy Father that Vatican II was very necessary, yet is was widely misinterpreted. It looks to be that he is fixing all of the errors that came of it. I know that Mass in the vernacular brought my mother into the Church, she was a Missouri Synod Lutheran before she converted. Thanks again.

Pax Vobiscum,

Theoden
