How do you misspend $1.4 million?

Happens all the time. Darn, where did I drop that $1.4 million again? Was it as McDonald's or Burger King?

Zakly.

Probably a bad night at BINGO too.

Father Michael Fay misspent up to $1.4 million in parishioner donations to lead a life of luxury with another man, according to the church-directed investigation. The report details how Fay used church money for limousine rides, stays at top hotels around the world, jewelry, clothing from Italy and the purchase of a condominium in Florida with his life partner.

Another homosexual priest in the Catholic church.

St. Francis de Sales, a priest who risked his life to bring people back to the Catholic Church, and later became a bishop, once said: ""Those who commit these types of scandals are guilty of the spiritual equivalent of murder. But I'm here among you to prevent something far worse for you. While those who give scandal are guilty of the spiritual equivalent of murder, those who take scandal -- who allow scandals to destroy their faith -- are guilty of spiritual suicide."

I've known great priests and mediocre priests. I've heard of wicked and corrupt priests. Now tell me, what group of people is exempt of this trend?

Fay shopped at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom, drove a Jaguar, attended a sports club, bought jewelry from Cartier, spent $130,000 for limo rides for himself and his mother and stayed at hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, Hotel De Paris and the Four Seasons Hotel, the auditors found. He spent tens of thousands of dollars on home furnishings and meals and more than $20,000 to mark the 25th anniversary of his ordination, according to the report.

Fay also invested in a Philadelphia condo with Fantini and said some of the furniture he bought was used in Fantini's residence.

The report also cites $257,00 for the purchase of the Florida property

Sounds like they can recoup a lot of that money. The Florida property and the condo may have even gone up in value. Of course, this guy should be sent to prison even if they recoup all 1.4 million.

There are none, every bushel of apples has a few bad ones in it. All I can relate is my experiences with this group and the bad ones have far outnumbered the good ones. They haven't shaken my faith in God, but they have turned me against the institution that claims to be God's voice on Earth.

It's more than an institution, and it's more than just priests.

LOL! Well, that is, I'd be laughing if this weren't so sad and scandalous.

Not this time. There would be hell to pay. Also, it looks there might be federal charges.

Since the article did not mention which Order he belonged to, it's possible he did not take a vow of poverty. That doesn't justify his spending other people's money like a politician, but it's a point.

It's filled with saints and sinners just like the Protestant churches. Do you think we are an exception to the rule?

FJ, you and I have argued nuances in doctrines ad nauseum. But I am just absolutely beside myself that the RC types never take one on the chin. We're all on FR because we are like minded conservatives. We all feel pretty much the same about Michael Jackson, Ken Lay, and Howard Dean. But it just seems that if you put a collar on any one of those guys then its a different story.

Imagine how many people confessed their sins to this guy? Imagine how many people took communion out of this demon's hands? How many drank the cup this pos blessed? Nobody noticed that this guy had a Jag? 3 residences in different states? Good grief, dude. Don't you folks realize how high up in a corporation or government you have to be, and how many people have to be involved, to pilfer this much money?

Seriously, this large a scandal would end a Protestant or Sabbatarian denomination, or at least fragment them. These things will continue until you folks starve your church of its funds and attendance and demand reform from its leader. Really, entire parishes are going under and entire diocese are selling their assets while this guy is embezzling $1.4 mil.

Just once, I'd like to see you RC types come out and just simply condemn this stuff and leave it at that. We argue a lot over subtle differences, and some big ones, but when the sins are so darned blatant and ghastly, it would be nice if we could find a little common ground, huh? Yeah, Yeah, I know, you guys loathe anyone outside your church speaking bad about it, but their has to a be a limt, huh?

Where did I ever say that I agreed with what he did or approved of it? What I don't care for is Protestants acting like you guys never have the same problems we do.

Nope, not for me.

Imagine how many people confessed their sins to this guy? Imagine how many people took communion out of this demon's hands? How many drank the cup this pos blessed?

It doesn't changed the validity of the sacraments. All priests and religious are prone to sin, due to human weakness, but as long as a priest or bishop does what the Church has laid out for sacramental validity, it's a valid sacrament.

Just once, I'd like to see you RC types come out and just simply condemn this stuff and leave it at that. What do you mean by "come out and just simply condemn this stuff and leave it at that"? When we have people using scandals in our Church to demonstrate how supposedly wicked our teachings are or how bad our Church is as a whole, when there are sinners in every denomination, of course we're going to stand up for our teachings, and stand up for our Church. We're not going to let these monsters lead us to spiritual despair and/or suicide. The Church has lasted 2,000 years, and there have been periods like this before, where many of the clergy have been just plain wicked. But you know what? The Church is still around, and that demonstrates that something else is sustaining her.
