Fathers, Husbands and Rebels: Acting outside the Catholic Church, many married priests are attracting a following.
BOSTON The priests came from three states, converging on a suburban park one Sunday to conduct an outdoor Mass. Wearing white vestments with rainbow-hued stoles, they led the worshippers in prayer and song. They stuck closely to traditional Roman Catholic liturgy.
But as they raised their arms in blessing, the five men revealed unmistakable proof of defiance: All wore wedding bands.
These men, who still consider themselves Roman Catholic priests, have wives, children and unflinching commitments to their 2,000-year-old faith. As married priests, they say, they are not heretical anomalies but, instead, are following a model set by priests and popes in the earliest days of their church. They are part of a growing national network of thousands of deeply religious men who believe marriage does not compromise their ability to serve as spiritual ministers.

I'm not catholic, but I find it interesting that God is working to end this celibacy thing, as most of the ministers in God's early church were married (1 Timothy 3)

Why are priest not allowed to marry? This is an honest question. Because they falsely think it's more "holy", when in reality God says not to do that

Bump that! A vow-breaker is a vow-breaker. Would you marry a man who'd cheated on his wife?

in reality God says not to do thatOh? Where is that? "But I would have you to be without solicitude. He that is without a wife is solicitous for the things that belong to the Lord: how he may please God. But he that is with a wife is solicitous for the things of the world: how he may please his wife. And he is divided" (1 Cor. 7:31-32).

I'm not catholic, but The words that indicate I should stop reading. If you're not Catholic, why are you so bothered? I find it interesting that God is working to end this celibacy thing, as most of the ministers in God's early church were married (1 Timothy 3)
Except both Christ and Paul who both praised celibacy. I love it when men work to end God's divine plans and attribute their ideas to God.

Why are priest not allowed to marry? This is an honest question. Jesus Christ was celibate. (Unless of course, you believe the DaVinci Code).
"But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please [his] wife. There is difference [also] between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please [her] husband. And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction." - 1 Corinthians 7:32-35
"Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman." - 1 Corinithians 7:1
"And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life." - Matthew 19:29
"His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with [his] wife, it is not good to marry. But he said unto them, All [men] cannot receive this saying, save [they] to whom it is given. For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from [their] mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive [it], let him receive [it]." - Matthew 19:10-12
What the Catechism of the Catholic Church says on "Celibacy of the Clergy:"
1579. "All the ordained ministers of the Latin Church, with the exception of permanent deacons, are normally chosen from among men of faith who live a celibate life and who intend to remain celibate 'for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.' [Mt 19:12 .] Called to consecrate themselves with undivided heart to the Lord and to 'the affairs of the Lord,' [1 Cor 7:32 .] they give themselves entirely to God and to men. celibacy is a sign of this new life to the service of which the Church's minister is consecrated; accepted with a joyous heart celibacy radiantly proclaims the Reign of God. [Cf. PO 16.]"
1580. "In the Eastern Churches a different discipline has been in force for many centuries: while bishops are chosen solely from among celibates, married men can be ordained as deacons and priests. This practice has long been considered legitimate; these priests exercise a fruitful ministry within their communities. [Cf. PO 16.] Moreover, priestly celibacy is held in great honor in the Eastern Churches and many priests have freely chosen it for the sake of the Kingdom of God. In the East as in the West a man who has already received the sacrament of Holy Orders can no longer marry."
1599. "In the Latin Church the sacrament of Holy Orders for the presbyterate is normally conferred only on candidates who are ready to embrace celibacy freely and who publicly manifest their intention of staying celibate for the love of God's kingdom and the service of men."

You're a little late to this debate. Catholic priests are "not allowed" to marry because they take a vow to remain celibate once they become priests.
The Latin Rite of the Catholic Church holds clerical celibacy as a discipline. In more ancient times, the Church allowed married priests. The Latin Rite currently allows exceptions for already-married Protestant ministers (such as from the Anglican and Lutheran sects) to become priests once they convert and go through the proper training, but they may not marry after they are ordained.
The Eastern Rites of the Catholic Church do allow a married priesthood, though they have many restrictions on it. This is due to the history and heritage of the Eastern Rites, many of whom were of the Orthodox Church in the past.

Really? Go read your New Testament. Celibacy is preferred.
1 Corinthians 7:1
Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
1 Corinthians 7:7-9
7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. 8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. 9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
Matthew 19:12
For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

Gimme a break. God tries to reform the church by inciting radicals to break their vows before Him? What're you, some sort of theological marxist revolutionary? Good grief.

Everyone who replied so angrily to me forget the scriptures that point to married pastors:
1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:6
Peter himself was married. LOL, and wasn't he the first "pope"? ;)
Lastly, the scriptures say that those who FORCE celibacy (not choose, force), are teaching doctrines of DEMONS: 1 Timothy 4:3
Just because Paul preferred to be unmarried, doesn't mean that God doesn't EQUALLY use the married. Otherwise, wouldn't Paul have rejected the married pastor? He quoted the married pastor TWO TIMES.
And Jesus being unmarried is for an entirely different reason that we would be. So that example is stupid. You may as well say, hey, Jesus was sinless, why aren't you?

I'm not a Protestant, no matter how many labels you like to put on people. I'm a Christian, just like they were in the early church of Acts.
