"Catholics" turn to condoms in AIDS-ravaged Honduras

Sure enough, the original headline doesn't have the quotation marks.

Nice touch.

These helpers are doing Christ's work. God bless them.
I remain befuddled at the Church's stance on condoms.

Condoms for the women! This is the cry of the liberal dissenters today. I understand the sentiment. These women, through no sin of their own, are contracting a deadly, horrible virus. However, the solution being proposed here is truly evil. Continue (encourage, even) women thinking of themselves as sex objects, devoid of intrinsic value. Who are these women to expect or demand fidelity from their husbands?

Why not make every attempt to educate a lesson in chastity? Forget about the condoms. The sick, sinful culture (every married man has many lovers) of these people has brought this scourge upon them. The liberals say let's not treat the source of the illness, let's encourage one of the symptoms.

Now take poor Carlos, for instance. How are condoms going to help him? He is, first of all, unmarried. He should not be having relations with anyone. Second of all, he is sick. He should not be having relations with anyone, whether he is married or not.

"In Honduras, where a married man without lovers is an oddity...."

The wages of sin is DEATH - for themselves and their spouses.

Condoms are no solution for a society which lacks the basic virtue of marital fidelity, they will only make it worse. Condoms will simply prolong the epidemic which will only be over when all the adulterers, fornicators and homosexuals are dead.

In Honduras, where a married man without lovers is an oddity, 90 percent of newly infected women are housewives.

Of course, if we weren't being sensitive to their culture, we'd be deemed bigoted.

Whatever.

Pay no mind to God's Commandments...their "rationalization" isn't even within a rim shot.

>> In Honduras, where a married man without lovers is an oddity, 90 percent of newly infected women are housewives... Some 85 percent of Hondurans are Catholic, and many were rooting for their liberal, poverty-fighting Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga to become Pope last month. <<

Apparently Maradiaga is one damned lousy Catholic leader.

Some 70,000 Hondurans are living with HIV/AIDS, nearly 2 percent of the adult population.

Nearly 2 percent - the population doesn't sound ravaged to me.

Some folks hide behind being pastoral to hide their open dissent from Church teachings.

But it is not "being pastoral" to tell people that that which is dangerous and sinful is OK.

The Church will NEVER approve the use of condoms "to prevent AIDS."

Condoms have a 10-15% failure rate at preventing pregnancy, but a woman can only get pregnant about 7 days out of a typical 28 day cycle.

That's 25% of the days of an average cycle.

However, she CAN get AIDS 100% of the days of her cycle, so the failure rate for condoms in preventuing AIDS would logically be at least twice that of preventing pregnancy, at a very conservative estimate.

The Church will NEVER recommend a woman play with Russian Roulette when she has greater than 1 in 3 odds of eventually contracting this deadly disease using condoms. The Church realizes that human life is a greater good.

ANYONE who promotes condom use to prevent AIDS by married couples is a fool and is endangering the lives of woman in their care, all under the pretense of being "pastoral."

Maybe that should turn to Jesus Christ and ask Him to send the Holy Spirit upon them. With the HS, all evils can be overcome, and they will no longer be slaves to depravity. It's high time that people quit worshipping the false idolatry of sex, and returned to the one true God. Following old fashioned rules will free them from all worry concerning AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

HIV/AIDS is down in Uganda, no secrets, abstinence and monogamy and NO condoms. And I bet the UN with their sustainable development and population control programs  is behind this whole thing.

Typical of the kind of Honduran now catching the virus, the boyish-faced former factory worker is neither sexually promiscuous nor an intravenous drug user. He caught HIV from a steady girlfriend who got it from a former lover.

This is not promiscuity? He wasn't married to her.

I quit reading after this.
