MENTAL PRAYER -- Challenge to the Lay Apostle (The Queen's Work) | 1958 | Theologians Sodality Academy (St. Marys, KS)

Posted on 12/04/2004 9:14:19 PM PST by Askel5

[T]he real work in this part of your mental prayer is always going to be up to you and you alone.

Nobody in the world can really apply personally any truth to your life except you yourself.

Nobody knows you from the inside out the way you know yourself.

But the man who is brave enough to try to look honestly at himself and strong enough to try to do something about really changing himself -- that man can change the world

Nota Bene:
From what I can tell, this book of meditations was designed for (Young) Men.
I would like to respect that intent on this thread
(though Men and Women of all ages certainly are invited to follow along.
I know it's been a great help to a "Vatican II" Catholic like myself).

Toward that end, I trust all will seek to observe a Rule of Silence
in order that this thread may serve as a quiet spot
for Men, especially,
to take a few minutes' daily prayer sans pings or chat or pictures and such.

In the Comments section below, I am including a Table of Contents,
to include titles of all meditations omitted "to date."
If anyone wishes to have one of these omitted meditations at any time,
FReepmail me -- I'll be happy to oblige on the thread or by mail, as you wish.

MENTAL PRAYER -- Challenge to the Lay Apostle

Preface

This book is designed to help Sodalists spend their 15 minutes of daily mental prayer in as easy and as profitable a way as possible. Prayer is, of course, always an intimate and personal experience. No one would dream of suggesting that one book could actually meet all the prayer needs of thousands of different people. But one book can be a great help for many people and can be for all at least more helpful than nothing.

In no sense is this book an attempt to force Sodalists or anyone else to pray to a pattern. We presuppose that the directors of the individual souls who will use this book will know from their own experience and their own reading in ascetica1 literature the dangers of any such attempt. Nevertheless, if all his Sodalists are working from the same book, the director will find it easier to give common explanations of prayer, and the Sodalists will find it easier to explain their difficulties and successes to the director.

The meditations in this book are arranged in an ordered series. It is recommended, therefore, that the Sodalist, at least his first time through the book, should follow this order. This does not imply that he ought to spend exactly one and only one day on each meditation. It is to be encouraged that he spend as many days on each meditation as he finds profit in the thoughts and affections it suggests to him, and that he be carefully taught the fundamental rule of prayer: "Stay where you seem to be finding food for your soul; and when you find it, enjoy it, without any worry about moving on to further points or meditations."

We urge the director above all to take the responsibility for constantly reminding and encouraging his Sodalists to keep trying. Faithfulness to mental prayer is the first, and in many ways the most important, of all means to success in prayer. If the Sodalist remains faithful, no matter what the difficulty, much of the rest can be safely be left in the hands of God. But if he does not, through prayer, continue to put himself daily into the hands of God, much of what God planned for him will never be accomplished.

Finally, the director will find it profitable to familiarize himself with outstanding works on prayer. Besides those listed in the closing notes of the book itself, two others especially helpful for his purposes will certainly be Tanquerey's The Spiritual Life and The Ways of Mental Prayer by Dom Lehodey.

Three Methods of Prayer of Saint Ignatius

First Method of Prayer:

In this first method of prayer, we consider and think over the First Commandment, asking ourselves how we have observed it and in what manner we have failed. We will use as a measure of this consideration the space of time it takes to recite three times the OUR FATHER and the HAIL MARY. If during this time we should find faults we have committed, we will ask forgiveness and say an OUR FATHER. The same method will be followed with each of the Ten Commandments.

Second Method of Prayer:

We may kneel or sit, or use any position suited to our disposition and conducive to devotion. We then say, "Father," and continue meditating on this word as long as we find various meanings, comparisons, relish, and consolation in the consideration of it. The same method should be followed with each word of the OUR FATHER, or of any other prayer which we wish to use for this method.

Third Method of Prayer:

With each breath or respiration, we should pray mentally while saying a single word of the OUR FATHER, or other prayer that is being recited, in such a way that from one breath to another a single word is said. For this same space of time, the attention is chiefly directed to the meaning of the word, to the person who is addressed, to our own lowliness, or the difference between the greatness of the person and our own littleness. In this way, observing the same measure of time, we should go through the other words of the OUR FATHER. We can use this same method with any prayer.

Don't Read This [Thread]!

How to Begin:

Don't read this [thread]! It's not meant to be read! This book is to help you pray in a special way, to make mental prayer-which is quite a different thing from reading. If you read this [thread], you may hurt your prayer. Don't read it.

First Steps:

Remember that prayer is talking to God. Mental prayer is talking to Him in your own words about things that are important to Him and to you. Sometimes this is very easy. Sometimes it is quite 'hard. But it is always very important.

If you want to spend 15 minutes with God every day, as the Sodality way of life challenges you to do, you will often need help. Each meditation in this book contains several built-in prayer-helps. These built-in helps are designed to make it easier for you to make mental prayer, easier to stay close to God and come to know and love Him better in the 15 minutes you have set aside daily just for Him.

  1. Take no more than one day's meditation at a time.

  2. Make up your mind to stick to it, once you have begun, for the full time you promised God, however long that was. Follow the advice of your director.

  3. Use the built-in prayer-helps, as you need them.

The Built-In Prayer-Helps:

1.
Presence of God.
Every meditation in this book opens by reminding you of the presence of God. It is very important, and you must never skip it. Follow the directions and prayer on page 14, thinking over what each word means.

2.
Grace I Ask.
This suggests something worthwhile for you to aim at and try for in your . mental prayer each day. Ask God in your own words to give you this grace and favor. Ask Him sincerely, no matter how you feel at the moment. All the later parts of each meditation are planned to help you get from God that definite grace you ask here at the beginning.

3.
The Idea.
Here are suggested thoughts for you to think about and especially for you to talk about with God. It is always easier to talk when you have something definite to discuss. This Idea part of each meditation tries to remind you of something you might want or might find profitable to talk over with God.

Many meditations have a MENTAL PICTURE instead of the Idea. In these you simply follow the description slowly and try to build up in your mind the picture described. Both Idea and Picture meditations will help you to discover many things about God and yourself, important things, and will help you see more clearly and more deeply into things you know already.

4.
My Personal Application.
The facts considered in each day's mental prayer can change your life. They should change it. That is one of the reasons mental prayer is so important. But in order that these facts and ideas can help your life, you have to take them and see for yourself what they should mean to you, here and now.

This built-in help, Personal Application, tries to help you get started seeing these real connections between the truths and you. But the real work in this part of your mental prayer is always going to be up to you and you alone. Nobody in the world can really apply personally any truth to your life except you yourself. Nobody knows you from the inside out the way you know yourself. But the man who is brave enough to try to look honestly at himself and strong enough to try to do something about really changing himself--that man can change the world.

5.
I Speak to God.
This is not the fifth thing you do in mental prayer. This is something you do in mental prayer. This is something you do all the way through all your prayer-first, fifth, and last too. But this help number 5 tries to suggest some special things you might want to say to God in connection with the definite ideas in this one day's meditation. Of course, these are only suggestions. And your own words, your own thoughts, your own feelings will always be better. It's just good to have these to use when you're stuck.

6.
Thought for Today.
Twenty-four hours can be a long time. To help stretch the good effects of a 15-minute mental prayer out over 24 hours, it's good to have one idea packed into one short sentence to carry with you through the day: something you can remember easily, something that will bring back to your mind and heart the things you said to God and God said to you in your last mental prayer. The Thought for Today tries to give you one short idea like this. It's just a suggestion; if you have a more striking one, use it.

Presence of God

When it is time for my mental prayer, I will:

STOP Whatever else I have been doing … find a place where I will not be disturbed or distracted… stand still for a moment and
THINK what a serious and important act I am now going to do… to speak to God… Think who I am… and who He is… Think slowly, seriously, of the fact that He is present… here… now… in me… and all around me… And I kneel down, bow my head and
PRAY My God, all great, all good – I adore you. Be merciful to me, a sinner. You know me… You made me… You want me here. Help me to pray. Let everything I do, now and forever, be done for YOU…

THE CENTURION'S PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ,
have mercy on me,
a sinner.

breathe in Christ, hold onto His mercy, exhale your sin
Pray without ceasing ...

TABLE OF CONTENTS – By Sections

Our Lord has asked to be honored in a special way on the first Friday of each month. Our Lady has asked for special remembrance on all first Saturdays. To help you make these special remembrances, this book includes a special First Friday and First Saturday mental prayer at the beginning of each month. You may move these yourself to the right day each time, and put them in place of the written meditation for that day. Every month also provides a special monthly check-up for your spiritual life as a Sodalist (Rule 38: The Monthly Recollection Day"). Your director will tell you the best day to make this. Three dates will be left blank each month so that you can fit in these meditations and move the others around as necessary.

Presence of God

A GOOD BEGINNING – September 13—September 28

Two things we want as we make our start: To learn to pray well from the very beginning, and to make this year, in every way, the best of our lives so far. This first group of mental prayers should help us do both of those.
My Mental Prayer | My Need of Prayer | Getting Started in Prayer | More Helps to Pray | What is a School? | Sodality Activities | Solitude and Silence | Two Missionaries | No Prayer Without Penance | School Spirit | Daily Prayers | In God's Service
More Helps to Pray
The Personal Application, the "I Speak to God" – everything in these prayers – is, remember, only a help. Use them as much as you need them, no more.
If the first sentence in The Idea gives you something to think about before God, something to pray over, never worry the least bit about going onto the second sentence.
When an idea strikes you that way, that is God talking to you, rmeindingyou that there is something in that idea He thinks you need. You must never turn away from Him when this happens. You must not move on to another idea until that first one has soaked in fully, until there seems no more for you to get out of it here and now.
In the same way, if you get a lot of good out of one meditation, don't hesitate to use the same one over the next day. Stay with it as long as it helps you. Go on to the next one when you've finished. It's praying that's important – not getting through this book.

Necessity of Prayer | Doing My Part | Praying Always | What it Takes to be an Active Sodalist | Necessity of Prayer
BASIC FACTS -- WHY WE ARE – September 29-October 16

God is complete happy. He is also so good that He wants to share His happiness with others. So, He made us. He pointed out the ways we have to get to Him and be happy with Him forever. That is what we are going to consider and pray over in these next pages: why God made us and how we are to fulfill His plans for our happiness.
First Friday of October – The Sacred Heart, Symbol of Love | First Saturday of October – Fifth Glorious Mystery, Mary's Queenship | Monthly Check-Up – On Prayer | Who Is God? | God Created Me | Why God Created Me | Serving God – The Way To Heaven | The Use of Creatures | Steppingstones to God | It Takes More than One | Studies | Companions | Popularity | Drink | Sex and Sex Pleasure | Money | God or Creatures | Giving All to God

BASIC FACTS – WHAT WE'VE DONE – October 17—October 29

We do not have to be happy with God forever. We can deliberately turn our backs on him if we wish to. When we do that, we sin. Let's look now at what sin is and what we do when we turn away from God.
Sin – The Worst Evil | The Sin of Adam and Eve | The Effects of Personal Sin in the World Today | Sin – the Death of the Soul | Sin and My Happiness | Sin Prefers a Creature to God | God and My Gratitude | I Caused Christ's Suffering | Mortal Sin Deserves Hell | Pains of Hell | Venial Sins – The Cost | Venial Sin – The Risk | For You – Everything!
BASIC FACTS – Watching Our Step

Certain persons, places, and things may easily lead us into temptation and even lead us to sin. We are going to determine now what are our occasions of sin, and we shall find out how to covercome temptation.
Occasions of Sin for Me | Occasions of Sin for Me – Companions and Purity | November 1 – Feast of All Saints | November 2 – The Souls in Purgatory | First Friday of November – Greatness of the Sacred Heart's Love for Us | First Saturday of November – First Joyful Mystery (Annunciation) | November Monthly Check-Up – On Examination of Conscience | Occasions of Sin for Me – Companions and Drink | Occasions of Sin for Me – Some Shows | Occasions of Sin for Me – Reading | Why Does it Happen to Me? | Confidence in God's Help | Temptations Against Purity | Temptations Against Faith | Death, the Most Certain thing in Life | The Rich Fool | Life is Changed, Not Taken Away | Happy Death | The Particular Judgment
TIME TO CHANGE

God is merciful; in fact, He is eager to welcome back the repentant sinner. We shall look at the words of Christ in which He tells us of God's mercy and we shall see what we should do to obtain God's pardon.
The Good Shepherd | The Prodigal Son | The Woman Taken in Adultery | Confession | Examination of Conscience | Sodality Daily Examination of Conscience | Why I am Sorry | Perfect Contrition | The Purpose of Amendment | the Act of Contrition | The Act of Contrition II | The Particular Examination | Discovering the Root of the Trouble

Do they sound pretty Easy over all?

I'll bet most Catholics my age would have about as much hope of passing a quiz on the content as Public School kids do taking the Kansas Board of Education's test for 8th Graders which makes the rounds every so often.

I pray these are of some use to you and me.

FIRST SATURDAY OF DECEMBER

FIRST JOYFUL MYSTERY -- ANNUNCIATION

Presence of God

Grace I Ask
Understanding of this great prayer.

Hail Mary … these are the words of the angel's greeting to you… I repeat them… I say "good morning" to you… knowing that you are listening… May my prayer be pleasing to you.

Full of grace … grace makes us like God… you are full of grace… as muchl ike God as you possibly can be… help me to become spiritually "graceful."

The Lord is with thee … because you are pleasing to Him… because you are full of grace… I will always find him if I turn to you… for He is always with you… Please help me to stay with you both… always.

Blessed are thou among women … "blessed" means happy… you are surely the happiest of all women… because you are the closest to God… Help me to understand that lasting happiness and joy can be found only in God.

And blessed is the fruit of they womb … how happy anyone wold be to have you for a mother… yet you are my mother… for you were given to me by…

Jesus … God and Man… your creator and your Son… who came as King to rule my life… Help me to obey His commands and follow his advice.

Holy Mary … sinless Mary… all-pure Mary… most powerful Mary… help me… your Sodalist…to be a little like you.

Mother of God … mother of Christ… mother of divine grace… my mother… never turn away from your children, but …

Pray for us … for us… in our place… be our substitute… for us… all of us… Sodalists, all Catholics, all who need your help, for we are all…

sinners … who have failed your Son so often… help us…

Now … for weak are weak at every moment… help us today, tomorrow…

And at the hour of our death … stand by our cross as you stood by that of your Son… help us to die in God's favor… and come to life without end.

Amen … please, may it be so!

Sodality

I

The sodalities of the Church are pious associations and are included among the confraternities and archconfraternities. It would not be possible to give a definition making a clear distinction between the sodalities and other confraternities; consequently the development and history of the sodalities are the same as those of the religious confraternities. A general sketch of these latter has been already given in the account of the medieval confraternities of prayer (see PURGATORIAL SOCIETIES). They are also mentioned in the article SCAPULAR.

WORKING ON THE PARTICULAR EXAMEN

Presence of God

Grace I Ask
Oh my God, give me the grace to carry through this opportunity of becoming perfect.

The Idea
In the story of his life, Benjamin Franklin tells how he wanted to become a perfect man. He says he knew it would be a long process but he wanted to see concrete results along the way. His method?

"Each night before retiring I inquired into the actions of that day, writing down the number of times I slipped into the evil I had determined to root out." Sound familiar?

And Franklin probably never heard of the "Particular Examination." He figured that system out for himself. He knew it just had to work.

And he really worked at it, marking down in a notebook each night how many times he had fallen into the particular habit he was trying to correct. Then he would compare today's total with yesterday's and last week's to see how much progress he was making.

And Franklin didn't have Christ before his eyes when he decided to become perfect. His whole motive was to become a better businessman -- basically because he loved himself.

My reason ... to become like Christ ... the best possible motive.

My Personal Application
By today I should have my target pretty well lined up. Once we begin firing, the important thing is to stick with it. We won't change our aim till we have destroyed the first objective. It will take weeks, perhaps months. No matter, as long as we keep at it.

I Speak to God
Dear God, help me to make a success of my Particular Examination. The secret is sticking to it. But that is difficult for people my age... we like changes. Keep Christ before my eyes and let me realize that His Blessed Mother is looking on, watching me grow more and more like her son.

Thought for Today
For tomorrow and its needs, I do not pray.
Keep me Lord, Just for today.

December Monthly Check-Up

On Confession

Presence of God

Grace I Ask
To see clearly how I have been making my confessions, to rejoice over successes, to be sorry for failure, to do better in the future.

Check-Up

Have I made my examination of conscience faithfully each night? This practice will help me a lot in preparing for confession. How often have I gone to confession? … once a week? …. at least every two weeks? Do I go to a regular confessor, one who can get to know me and help me with my particular problems, encourage me to make progress?

Do I examine my conscience carefully, though not scrupulously, before going to confession? Do I always put special emphasis, besides, on being really sorry for my sins, striving for perfect contrition?

When making my confession, do I realize that I am telling my sins to Christ, whose place the priest takes? Do I always put the bigger or harder-to-confess sins first? Am I always completely open and honest (something that requires real courage at times) in the confessional? Do I answer any questions the priest may ask? Do I pay attention to the priest if he give me advice? … do my best to follow it? Do I always say my penance?

I Speak to Christ
O Lord, let me realize that you gave me confession to be a help in living my life for you. Give me the grace to use this wonderful sacrament correctly. Help me to avoid the same sins in the future and to make sure I stay away from my occasions of sins. Let my attitude toward confession be that it is the place where I meet you for forgiveness and grace.

Thought for Today
Whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven."

CHRIST OUR KING

Who is He? The most important person who ever lived on this earth, Christ our Lord! He is our Leader – indeed, our King. What does he ask of us, His followers? Let us watch and listen ….

December 5th

THE CALL OF A LEADER

Presence of God

Grace I Ask
To know my own strength.

The Idea
Today's meditation is a test of character. I will look deeply inside myself and see honestly how I would respond to a certain imaginary situation.

First, I must imagine the situation. Suppose our country became a Communist Slave state. Impossible? That's what the people of Poland, Hungary, Romania once thought, too. So I try to imagine it, with all its accompanying horrors—especially horrible for people who try to remain faithful to God.

And now suppose that, just when things seemed at their very worst, God stepped in with a miracle. God raised up a great Catholic leader and commissioned him to lead a revolt, a coast-to-coast uprising for liberty; God called on every man, woman and child who loved his country to join in and help—there would be work for all.

And the miracle was this: though the fight would be hard and long, though there would be much work and suffering for all, still, by God's power, every single person who marched behind that leader would survive. All would, miraculously, be alive at the end and see their country free.

My Personal Application
How would I respond to such a call? Would I volunteer? Would I dare risk my job, my possessions, my reputation; face prison, suffering, dangers – if, in the end, I and the cause I fought for under such a leader were sure to win? Would I be mature enough to give up a few things now to gain a sure reward in the future? Would the good of my country, my church and the people I care for most mean enough to me?

I Speak to God
Please God, let me see myself as I am. Could I really measure up to a situation such as that? If not, what's wrong with me? Will you help me overcome whatever is wrong?

Thought for Today
Help me to know myself.

THE CAUSE OF CHRIST

Presence of God

Grace I Ask
To wake up to what is really going on in the world around me; and to desire to play my part in it.

The Idea
Yesterday's character test was only a preparation. Today let us look at the reality!

Yesterday's story is working out in the world today. Not only my own country, but the entire world, is largely in slavery. Not only slavery to Communism (militant atheism, n/k/a the saving graces of Western Materialism) – that's part of it – but in slavery to sin, to the devil.

Men are in slavery to their own flesh, to their craving for things of this world; men are slaves of fear, of ignorance, slaves of injustice and cruelty from other men.

God made this world as a way to heaven; and for many, many people it has become a greased chute to hell! I know what hell is and how awful it is that anyone should go there. Christ knows that too. And that is why Christ today is leading a war for freedom, a great campaign against all the powers of evil – against sin – injustice, immorality, against everything that can corrupt souls and turn them from God.

The world is an invisible batteground where a great war is going on constantly. The prizes in that war are the souls of men. This fight of Christ's to save all men is the most important thing going on in the world today.

My Personal Application
How is the battle working out in my own life? What am I doing ot help the cause along – in myself? In others?

I Speak to God
Dear Christ,
help me to appreciate the reality and important of this great war for the liberation of the souls of men. Please show me how I can ehpl, and give me the strength and courage to take my proper place in the fight.

Thought for Today
""The life of man upon earth is a warfare."

THE CALL OF CHRIST

Presence of God

Grace I Ask
Not to be deaf to Christ's challenge to me, but quick and eager to hear and answer Him.

The Idea
I must now compare my answer to the character test with my answer to Christ's real challenge. And first, would I have answered that call to save my country? Then how much more worth answering would I find Christ's call to save the world? I picture Him to myself, the divine King of the universe. He stands before me, looking over the entire world, and He calls me personally. He says: "My will is to conquer the entire world and all my enemies, and so to enter into the glory of my Father. If you want to come with me, you must work along with me. As you share with me in the labors, so will you share the victory with me." Compare this leader with the imaginary one. Christ is real; Christ is God Himself. Christ earned my love and devotion by dying for me. Think about the cause Christ asks me to fight for-the salvation of souls... the victory He offers –-a perfect reward which will last forever... the certainty of winning —at the last day, all who ever lived will have to acknowledge Christ as King of the universe. And today, to die for Christ is to live forever.

My Personal Application
What does He ask of me? To help Him conquer the world for the world's own good. I'm already bound to part of the job; winning the fight in my own soul against the world; the flesh; and the devil. But He is calling me to much more; and I can refuse it if I want. Christ's cause needs helpers in every walk of life. All who answer--men; women, children --find that their life takes on real; full meaning and purpose for the first time. Will I answer? Will I follow this Leader, Christ my King?

I Speak to God
Dear Lord; help me to understand what your call demands; help me to answer it fully and generously. I want my life to be worthwhile; devoted to the one thing that really matters.

Thought for Today
"My will is to conquer the whole world. If you want to come with me..."

Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Presence of God.

Grace I Ask:
Let me understand how your Immaculate Conception should affect me.

The Idea:
When I recall that Mary was free from the moment of her conception from all stain of original sin, I understand what is said-but does this have any effect on my life? Mary is my mother. She was conceived immaculate because of her divine Son-but her motherhood of me is also affected by her sinlessness.

When I came into the world, I was dead to real life, sanctifying grace. At Baptism I was "born" to this life and, in a sense, Mary became the Mother of this life of mine. Does it mean nothing to me that my mother is completely without sin? A child naturally resembles its mother; at birth the resemblance is slight, because the child has hardly begun to live-but the resemblance grows as the child grows older, and soon it begins to imitate and acquire even the habits and mannerisms of its mother.
How should I resemble Mary? In her sinlessness.

When we want to get a picture of Mary, we think of the words of the Apocalypse: "A woman clothed with the sun"; the meaning is clear if we remember that "darkness" stands for sin, and "light" for sinlessness -- Mary, the supremely sinless, immaculate one.

My Personal Application:
My response to this mother of mine will be, first, to keep all darkness, stain, sin, out of my life. But most importantly, I will imitate this sun-clad mother and her Son -- the Light of the world -- in living my act of consecration to her, and by heeding the call to apostolic action: "So let your light shine before men that they may see your good works"

I Speak to Christ: Lord, I thank you for giving me this great gift-your Immaculate Mother. Fill my soul with this light which is really life so that I may ever more and more be like your Immaculate Mother.

Thought for Today:
“0 Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

One Man’s Answer to Christ’s Call

Presence of God

Grace I Ask:
To be inspired to imitate the generous answer of St. Thomas More to the call of Christ.

Mental Picture:
The fat stubborn Kin Henry VIII Of England in his private chamber, pleading with his chancellor and friend, Thomas More …. “Come now, Thomas. Set aside your silly scruples about taking the oath of my supremacy over the Church. I don’t want to have to be harsh with you as I have been with the others. Imagine you, a great scholar, in the Tower of London; you, my best friend, on the gallows.

“Listen to my call. I will give you even more power over all my subjects so that no one in all England will be greater than you. The dukedom of Lancaster—it will be yours. Your son will marry Elizabeth and be the future king. Everything I have except the crown will be yours!”

Thomas More lowers his head and closes his eyes. He seems to hear within himself the call of another King:

“If you will be perfect, go, sell what you have and come, follow me. If ay man will come after me, let him deny himself daily, take up his cross, and follow me … No one can serve two masters… He that is not with me is against me.”

My Personal Application
We know which King’s call Thomas More answers, for no son of his ever became king of England. And we do not call him Sir Thomas More but Saint Thomas More.

And I—which call am I going to answer? Is it that of the world of riches, selfishness and ease? Or is it that of Christ my King to poverty or spirit, self-sacrifice and zealous work for my neighbor? I cannot answer both calls. Which will it be?

I Speak to St. Thomas More:
Saint Thomas, I thrill to your generous answer to Christ’s call. Inspire me with your courage and your generosity to hear Christ’s call to me. Obtain for me the grace to answer His challenge the noble way that you did, evern it it means my death as it did for you.

Thought for Today:
Which call will I answer?

I talk to God in my mind throughout the day. I have conversations like I would with a friend. I guess what I am saying is that most the time I have casual, but serious conversations with God. Sometimes I pray in what would be considered traditional.
