My Friends in Christ...some input, please...
Posted on 03/13/2004 1:08:26 AM PST by National Vindication
I do apologize if my formatting for this thread is not correct, and that an article will not accompany this piece. What I have to say is rather personal, and only on the basis of anonymity on the internet do I feel that I can broach this subject...I have not even consulted my family regarding this as of yet.
I have had a dream, which I think, was the direct contact of our Most Serene Heavenly Father. I will discuss the details of this most awesome experience with you in time, but I must admit, I am hesitant...call it a weakness on my part, but I want to be sure that this was simply "not just a dream" first! Do all of you feel that the Lord may contact us by such means? Have any of you made such contact?
I am sorry if I am being a bit skittish about this, I truly am. It is a lot for me to handle right now. After speaking with some of you on this board, however, I know that I am in good company. Please note, with all assurance that I can give you, that I am 100% sane. This has never before happened to me...looking forward to your input. I hope to go into a bit of detail as things progress!

I look forward to hearing about your dream. How do you feel knowing God has spoken to you in such a way?

Interesting post. God works in mysterious ways... If this happened to me, I *think* that I would be inclined to look into, and read about the Saints' experiences.
Good luck in dealing with your situation and God bless.

One of many good questions... inquiring minds want to know :-)

my belief is that if your dream is consistent with His revealed Word you are on a good playing field.
He gave us prophets at the time when we did not have His word.
heb4v12
for the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even the to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Well, when the Lord speaks to a person he normally also sets up some collaborating evidence. For example, let us say you dreamt you were supposed to go on a missionary trip to Namibia. And then let's say 2 days later your spouse told you how she had met a person who had adopted a Namibian child and how conditions there were sad. And then a week later you received a brochure from South African airlines offering you a deep discount for flights to Southern African countries. And let's say all your life you have had a yearning to help kids that stem from unfortunate situations and environs. Then, i would say, you would need to have a close look at that.
And anyways, anything God tells you has to match His word. If you get a dream that tells you that you need to go kill all abortion doctors because they are killing innocents, and that doing so is the will of God, then you either had a bad taco or that dream is not legit. God will never tell you to do something that goes against His will. Never. Hence a dream about dating the pretty lady in the office is not a pass to cheat on a spouse.
All i can tell you is that when it comes to things of God the best thing to do is seek God. Freepers can give you answers, your pastor can give you answers, any person can give you answers. However, the final answer and explanation comes from God. I can tell you my understanding of something, and your minister can tell you his understanding of what it was that you dreamt. And we can all be wrong (or deceptive). Thus always seek God .....if He gave you the dream then rest assured He will give you the answer to the dream and its purpose.
Be blessed. (Prov. 16:3).
By the way, do not share your dream unless you know you are supposed to share it. Do not turn whatever it is you dreamt into a free-for-all unless that is what it was supposed to be for. If you are supposed to share it then share it, if not then do not. Pray for guidance.

In all truth, it is VERY frightening. Granted, I have not been alive for very long (23 years) but there was a very "familiar" feeling about what I truly feel was His presence...something that has existed for MUCH longer than myself, yet with me the whole time. Does that make any sense? I have always felt close to the Lord before...this was a thousand fold more powerful than anything like that.
The dream was actually very simple itself. I was gven a message. I can remember the words as clear as day, but I cannot remember any vision or pictures. I more FELT them than anything, like every familiar essence or thought in my life was plucked in such a way that it was more revealing than any image I could have been shown with my eyes!
I am frightened by the dream not only because of its power (I shake as I type this, even now, a week later!) but because of the message given. I honestly do not want to believe this, because if what I have been told is true, then I have no idea how I am to do the will of God.
The Lord apoke to me and said "Thomas, (the way that he called me by name was more wonderful and melodic than any sound I have ever heard!!) This world is in a time of trial. All around, the hardness of the hearts of the people continues to strengthen and the arms of darkness are threatening the very land I have given you to dwell in peace. Great men, loyal men to Me, the Lord their God, have done great works in combating this darkness, but they fight by the rules of the enemy. I will wield many swords against this foe, but as of right now, I have chosen you."
I tried to ask Him what He meant by this, and I was shown (again, with no vision by my eyes, but my heart) our country. I was shown what was happening to it. I saw marriages falling into ruin, children being brutalized...I saw His vision for a Kingdom melting away...here, in America. When He wept, I wept with Him. I saw that there was an evil far greater in this country than I had ever thought possible...than ANY of us have ever thought possible! I saw it gripping us until the very aspect of God's Will had been wrung from the country like a sponge being run through a press. In the end, the whole country felt...I don't know...it felt GRAY...like the very presence of God had abandoned it! It took only moments before He confirmed my worst fears!
"I cannot countennace a land that writhes in darkness. I have chosen you, Thomas, to lead people to righteousness. I have chosen you, Thomas, to do My will and revive this nation."
I awoke shaking, but not before I heard these words: "I will come unto you again. I have much to tell you."
I am frightened, friends. More than I knew I could ever be. I feel overjoyed having been in His presence...but I do worry. I worry A LOT!
My friends in Christ, please, your input!
"Dear God, may You always dwell within our hearts and lead us to the path of salvation! In Your Most Holy Name, Amen!"

Everyone,
My thanks for your replies. I truly do not know if this was the result of a hyper-active imagination (as I, shamefully, almost hope it is...) but I will definitely dwell on what you said. My Pastor will certainly hear of this, though that is a conversation that, for some reason, I dread. (Which is odd, considering we have such a great relationship.)
Your kindness and words are greatly appreciated!

spetznaz, your post has "food for thought"; it's caring as well as informative. Nice job!
Be blessed. (Prov. 16:3). That's nice. To you as well. :-)

That's the thing, though...am I supposed to share it? Should I delete it unless instructed? I feel rather helpless about this...I have been a Christian for a mere seven years now, and feel very inadequate when it comes to doing His will! >.<

Your fears are human. Seek Christ for the solace that He will not refuse to you. If you need help, seek a truly holy person for assistance to help you see, or find the way to Our Lord's outstretched, loving, helping hand.
You'll be in my prayers.
To: National Vindication
N.V., I sincerely do not want you to think that I am shunning you with my comments/advice about finding assistance from a holy person, or reaching Our Lord's outstretched hand.
There will be more helpful opinions as the day goes on... most importantly, don't give up hope, and don't forget the joy that you felt in your dream!

If it comes again, apply the test from 1st John chapter 1. Test the spirits to see if they are of God. If this "voice" does not acknowledge Jesus Christ as "come in the Flesh"...then you must repudiate it! Also the great prophets always were re-assured by God personally that he would put his spirit in them and that he would be personally
with them. The words that you spoke spoke of "being chosen", do not speak of being personally empowered by God. They speak to the pride center of a man, even when their is legitimate concern for the spiritual condition of our nation. Even Moses was allowed a physical sign or two to verify that it was the true God speaking to him. Ask the "voice" to acknowledge Jesus as man and God and see what response you get. Remember too, that the Holy Spirit refers "not to him-self" but always speaks of the father and the son!

A true calling of God would have God reassuring you that he would be with you, and that he would empower you! God doesn't impart the spirit of fear but of grace and truth! That is the key...while you must have faith to carry out what he asks of you...God will not leave you naked. If this voice acknowledges that Christ was man and God come to die for us, then it is safe for you to continue...testing all by his word. God will not violate his own word and his own character!

AAA, please reconsider what you have posted.
There is a possibility that your opinion, or gut reaction, is not right. Please be charitable.

Well I know you're being nice, but I for one don't appreciate someone who wanders in here on his first day claiming that God told him he's going to lead our country to glory.
He needs to crawl back under his rock.

AAA, your opinion as stated in the first sentence isn't uncharitable.
The second one, uh.... the picture though.... c'mon, please?
