Wouldn't documenting (undocumented) immigrants be step in the right direction?

Question: are ALL immigrants "illegal"? How do immigrants become citizens if they don't migrate to the USA?
To: VU4G10
Your title is misleading, to say the least.
He never said ONE word about amnesty. He was referring to identification and he specifically said "so they could go back and forth."

No, because then they would ask for the minimum wage.

Don't worry - Tancredo says he has enough votes in the House to block McCain's bill.

And unless I'm reading this wrong..he's saying VISAS... NOT CITIZENSHIP...it's just a step in the right direction.

"There's a bill that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has introduced that I think is terrific. It gives temporary working permits to immigrants so they can come in and out of this country, out of this state, and also, you know, there's another idea. Undocumented immigrants who come here before August 2003 can apply for visas especially if they don't have a criminal background. And if they have a job right now, they can apply for that visa. So there are different programs I want to push in that direction to help undocumented immigrants." Yeah...let's vote for Arghnold...He's a Conservative!!

Actually, I think he is doing well to bring this up. I think anyone else in his place would be pushing their single issue agenda down the road.

Arnold mentioned something about California only getting 70 percent back from federal taxes and that George Bush promised to help him. It sounds to me like he expects California to get a bailout from everyone's favorite sugar daddy -- the U.S. taxpayer.

Also, how long were the Sept. 11th terrorists in the country before the attack? Why exactly do we have a great priority on helping illegal aliens?

It's the difference between soft and hard pornography...it's soft amnesty that will lead, in a few years or less, to "ah come on, let's just let them become citizens".

This is nice. The knee jerkers are showing up, putting words into the article that aren't there.
Everyone has an agenda, don't they?
To: RedBloodedAmerican
You've got to be kidding? Migrants come here by the process of legal immigration or else they come here illegally; hence the term 'illegal alien'. Illegal aliens have no legal right to be here. The policy of Mexico and just about every country on Earth is to bar entry to anyone who does not legally qualify for entry. Why is that so confusing?
To: itsahoot
Arnie is in lockstep with the industry groups who want to suppress the wages of American citizens.
Clever...be "against" licenses for illegals before the election, now use the trick of making them become legal!
Anyone in the trucking or other jobs in Cali right now...you are about to lose your jobs.

How do immigrants become citizens if they don't migrate to the USA? By legally obtaining residency in the U.S., remaining here for seven years without breaking the law and taking an oath to become a citizen. They do not do it by simply walking across the border. That's called an "illegal alien".
