KSFO Talk Show host Lee Rodgers suffered heart attack (will return soon)
Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan |
KSFO (560AM - San Francisco) conservative talk show host Lee Rodgers had suffered a mild heart attack last Tuesday.
Co-host Melanie Morgan mentioned the news on this morning's show. Brian Sussman has been filling in for Rodgers during his absense.
Good news is that Rodgers is reported to return to the airwaves Tuesday.
http://www.ksfo560.com/showdj.asp?djid=2254 "I represent the spirit of free enterprise. I'm a no-holds-barred capitalist," says Lee Rodgers in his characteristically brash, up front style. Known as the "open-line king" during the 10 years he was a host on KGO Radio in San Francisco, he's now host of The Lee Rodgers Show on HotTalk 560 KSFO, weekday mornings from 5 to 9 a.m.
A passionate believer in the American Dream, Rodgers says, "It's almost impossible for anybody to begin life in lower circumstances than I did (admittedly without racial handicap). I figure that if you observe the wisdom in the words deferred gratification, and are willing to work your butt off, this society, with all its faults, offers you the opportunity to succeed. That's the starting point."
Rodgers has always been primed to succeed. He was born and raised in poverty near Memphis, Tennessee, lost part of a leg at age 13 working in the timber industry and then spent years living in different parts of the United States. A self-described part-time coach, referee, catalyst and provocateur, he began his broadcasting career at WIND in 1963 as a disc jockey and sportscaster, followed by stints with radio stations in St. Louis, Miami and Chicago.
After 10 years with KGO, Rodgers went north to KIRO radio in Seattle. One year later, he returned to the Bay Area where "the most interesting and spirited dialogue in talk radio takes place." He believes, "Even with good guests, it's the stimulation of the callers that makes the show."
Certainly Rodgers' show is spirited. Throwing out lines like "A conservative is a liberal who got mugged last night," and "It's my mission in my life to educate the heathen," he takes pot shots at government, liberalism, and all aspects of American culture while championing rampant free enterprise.

According to Melanie Morgan, the hospital had to take away his pants and shoes to keep Mr. Rodgers from roaming the hospital. LOL.
Can't keep a good man down.

Prayers for his speedy recovery. I haven't heard the man, but from the article he sounds like one of the good guys.

Yup, listening now.
Get well soon, Lee. You're my favorite curmudgeon.
And the show without you or O.V. is WEAK.

Darn. For a second there I thought it was Neil Rogers that had the heart attack.

I love it when he says "What is WRONG with you people?"
I haven't heard him use that line for some time, but it certainly echoes through my mind living here in the Bay Area.

I moved to GA last year from CA. I MISS KSFO, and especially Lee. I can still listen online, but it isn't the same now that escaped the land of the fruits and nuts. : )
Good wishes for his recovery.

He's supposed to be on the air tomorrow. He does the show on a ISDN line from his new home in Arizona. They said he won't be on the bay cruise this weekend to watch fleet week (as per the commercials they were running).

Lee tells it like it is. Him and Melanie make a great team. I am surprised that the Dianey owned station allows him to do what he does, It is all about ratings I suppose. If they lose him he could go to KNEW 910 on the AM dial which is challeging KSFO for conservative listeners in the bay area.

To: GSWarrior
Uncle Ree.. Where are your pants? LOL
He is like a Jim Eason only on the Savage end of the spectrum, imo. A real straight shooter to say the least.
Rush just reporting Gray may have been spotted with Clinton in Calibania. :-o

Unrelated topic, but who do Bay Area Freepers listen to. Live Savage or tape-delayed Hannity? Myself, when I listen in the afternoon, it's usually Hannity although I check in with Savage occasionally.

Norm
I have been curious for a long time, what the heck happened to Jim Eason?
He was my introduction to talk radio and I miss him.
I know he moved to North Carolina (?) and still did the broadcast, but when I moved back to Cali I never heard him again.
Thanks for whatever you know.
