The groping/Hitler charges continue to get saturation coverage on every news break on the radio. Don't know how it is playing out on the TV...

It was quite shocking to see the 6:30 FNC show where they critique the press.
The FNC staff obviously is not caught up on the latest NYT/Arnold/Hitler flap and were still reporting the OLD and ERRONEOUS news that Arnold liked Hitler!
It's quite outrageous that this story was allowed to percolate as long as it did. FNC didn't even report that Arnold had participated in some anti-facism rallies.

I don't watch much TV so I'm not sure how they're playing it. Probably big-time, if I had to guess.

FOX just reported that Oakland paper has withdrawn endorsement saying Arnold is unfit.....
To: EggsAckley
This will be nonstop. The Times will almost assuredly print more charges in Tonight's edition.
The recall could be in real danger now.
I think the bandwagon jumpers in the GOP may have a lot of 'splainin to do.
On the other hand, The Rats have always claimed that their internals look wonderful and the public polling is wrong.

Did they also mention that the Oakland paper is against the recall?

They probably tape it on Friday afternoon, since nobody wants to have to work late on Friday night or come in on Saturday.

Remember when I posted this at 1:30 am Pacific this morning?
One possibility I haven't seen mentioned on FR is the possibility of the rats playing phone bank games on Tuesday with nonexistent "exit polls." For example, calling and otherwise spreading rumors in hardcore rat areas saying "Arnold and the recall are doing far worse than expected! Get out there and vote and we can win this thing!" While, at the same time, spreading rumors in GOP/Arnold areas that "exit polls" are showing the recall and Arnold getting insurmountably high numbers (70% or so) in an attempt to lull GOP voters into thinking they're not needed and staying home. Not that I think this sort of penny-ante crap could possibly have enough effect to matter as things stand now, but if a truly damaging puke bomb is dropped in the next few days, it could make a meaningful difference.
Guess they're playing that card a lot earlier than I expected:
But en route to Modesto, reporters following the campaign started hearing by phone that Democrats were claiming overnight polls showed support for Schwarzenegger plummeting and the recall election's fate within the margin of error.

I figured it was taped, but to let such erroneous and damaging information stand without pulling the piece or giving an update it really lazy reporting.
We obviously cannot rely on ANYONE's reporting. Never could, but never more clearly articulated than this week.

I think you're right about the dems, but Weintraub's point about Arnold's staffers getting a bit too worried still makes me think that Arnold is tanking.

Former Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss tells Celebrity Justice exclusively that she has been harassed and ambushed by representatives from the LA Times and the Boston Globe, trying to find out if the actor turned candidate has ever had a penchant for hookers.
These two guys come up and they just start questioning me, [Heidi] Fleiss says, with very intrusive questions about Arnold Schwarzenegger. They look like FBI agents, but theyre from the Los Angeles Times.

Democrats were claiming overnight polls showed support for Schwarzenegger plummeting and the recall election's fate within the margin of error.TRANSLATION: if the margin of error is 4%, then the spread between those who want the recall and those who don't is 8 points.......I say that looks good to me!

Smearathon on NBC news tonight. Arnold's women and love of Hitler, blah, blah, blah, all reported breathlessly. They spent so much time making Gray Davis look like the cure rather than the cause of what ails California, that they plumb ran out of time to run Maria's speech, political connection of the woman avidly seeking grope claimers, not to mention the statement of the scriptwriter that the so-called Hitler quotations were not true. Just a bit of time before the break, dump on Rush and insinuate he could face prosecution, but an easier time of it if he cooperates with authorities. BTW, no mention WHATEVER of McClinTock or Bustamante. Tom Brokaw will host Arnold on Dateline Sunday night. I'm sure Arnold is more than up to the task.

That's how last-minute campaign smears WORK!!!!
If this was honest reporting, it would have come up weeks ago. And 30 year old stories would not be reported breathlessly as "new news". A single quote about Hitler, that skips the $1 million he gave to Simon Weisenthal center, his busting up of neo-nazi parade in the 60s, and his many public comments contradicting the erroneous attribution should be brought in.
They didnt do that ... they smeared him.
