State Sen. Tom McClintock may fall short of his dream of the California governorship, but he walks away with something of a consolation prize: a national reputation as a rising star of the Republican right.
McClintock has emerged as a hero among the nations leading conservatives, who admire his straightforward style and undiluted views. He enjoys the highest favorable ratings of any candidate in the Oct. 7 recall race, according to the most recent Los Angeles Times Poll, even though he trails a distant third in the field of candidates vying to replace Gov. Gray Davis if he is recalled. And even some Democrats have come to admire his principles and integrity during the campaign.

This is why I wish Tancrdeo would run for President. Just between us, I want Pres. Bush in there for another 5 years, but I'd happily vote Tancredo in the primary to reel in Bush's liberal tendencies.

McClintock's talents are really being wasted in a liberal state like California.
Californians are determined to screw up their state government by electing a constant stream of liberals who will devastate the state's coffers, drive out businesses, and turn California into Mexifornia. So why should McClintock waste himself in that environment?
Hillary made a move to New York, and became a politician there. She's not the first politician to make such a political career move. What would be wrong with McClintock finding a state that's in need of Conservative politicans and doing the same thing?
Conservatives are needed in government all over this nation. Why let good talent go to waste when it can be transferred to a place that will appreciate it.

The author uses a few lines from Schlafly, Bauer and Terry (not exactly your line-up of heavy hitters) to make a strained point. Those outside of California must understand that articles like these are used to keep the conservaives in line. The San Jose Mercury is not interested in McClintock. Rather, it hopes to split the conservative vote and, if nothing else, bring Bustamante and his ultra-left wing cabal to power.

Tombots : It is over!! Help us nail it down or help the rats muddy the waters enough to get it into court and steal it.
Its up to your and Don Tomas now.

Not a bad choice for a Conservative. Actually there are quite a few Conservative states who would readily take to McClintock's Conservative politics. Just remember that red and blue map of the 2000 election.

That may be true but it still underlines the fact that Conservatives are a minority in California politics, and that a Conservative with good ideas is wasted there.
Californians deserve the government they elect, but that doesn't mean that McClintock has to fade into the sunset after this recall is over. That doesn't help either McClintock or the American Conservative movement.

Well, I'd prefer (selfishly) that he stay, as I'm a Californian. Given how whacko the rest of the leadership has acted lately, he's about the only positive thing I can find in Government. However, if we aren't that lucky, I would certainly understand a decision to move to a place where he is better utilized and more appreciated.

Tancredo is great. He's been on local radio in Los Angeles getting the truth out on the border problems. I wish Bush would let him help in the White House NOW! He's persona non grata, though, right?

Yes, I believe the Bush administration has insulted him repeatedly. We NEED someone like him to run -- that's the only way they're going to listen. Calling your congressman is not working. The only thing they understand is votes & money. Bush needs some competition from the right. It will make him better.

Get Tancredo and McClintock together...
we could really have a 'mad as hell' revolution.
It seems like we are coming closer and closer to that day.

This is a rat psyops piece. That is a desperate attempt at slander. Who knew a piece about a Conservative (who they said would lose) could make FReepers so angry and conspiritorial.
Help us nail it down or help the rats muddy the waters enough to get it into court and steal it.
Why exactly would I want to help nasty, slandering, conspirtorial hacks like you? You are going to win without the "Tombots" anyways, right? Your hate has proven you have no need for us. Your candidates platform has shown that even clearer.

From what's in the national papers McClintock's career isn't going anyplace as long as he stays in California anyway.
Whether he stays in the race or gets out a liberal will be elected to office - A Republican RINO liberal or a Democratic liberal.
Conservatives will always have a minority position in California politics no matter what party holds office in Sacramento. That's what the people of California want, so let them have it.
My politics are Conservative, and I see McClintock as an asset for American Conservatives no matter what party they belong to. Rather than see McClintock fade into the sunset, and take his Conservative ideas with him, I'd like to see him relocate to an area of the country that can better appreciate his Conservatism and put his talents to good use. Obviously those talenst are being wasted where he is now.
