DAVIS IS LUCKY; THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENT CANDIDATES WORTH A RECOMMENDATION
Gray Davis has succeeded in politics in part by being lucky in who was running against him. It has happened again.
The list of replacement candidates is one more reason to reject the recall.
We cannot recommend any of them.
Some hold views antithetical to ours. The others seem even less capable than a lame-duck Davis of giving California the makeover it needs.

Good old SJMN, a model of reason and beacon of light (NOT).
McClintock is first on their chopping block.
"While his prescriptions for reforming state spending and reducing state bureaucracy would be healthful in moderation, moderation is not in McClintock's vocabulary. Socially, his views -- against abortion, against gun control -- are not values we share."
The SJMN just can't bring themselves to make a rational recommendation based on the primary issue behind the recall-- the state budget...;.

We cannot recommend any of them. It isn't your job to recommend them, it is your job to report on the candidates and the issues.

Davis is toast, but conservatives are lucky.
We learned this race how far off the reservation McClintock was without damage to the party this time.
This helps us all keep him from any power in the future. Imagine the problems if an unstable McCLintock grabbed more power...E-gads.

The SJMN just can't bring themselves to make a rational recommendation based on the primary issue behind the recall-- the state budget...;.I think its kinda cool how the (R)nold Groupies are in total agreement with the Far left on this "wrong values" canard. Reminds me of how the Paleocons sided with the Far left during the war. I wonder how these people can sleep at night, I wonder when the insomnia will come, before--or after the election. Perhaps they should read these;
I am a life long Democrat, and after watching last night's debate, and with what is happening to the state of California, I will only cast my vote for Tom McClintock. I will not vote for Arnold or any other of the candidates running. Others I talked with after the debate agreed that Senator McClintock may be the only candidate that represents our interests.
Bill, Newbury Park
I have been a Democrat most of my life, though I have occasionally voted for a Republican like Ronald Reagan...I thought that you were too conservative for me to even consider and was going to vote for Schwarzenegger, until I listened to you at the debate last night. You are the right leader for our State at this time. I will always remain a Democrat for McClintock.

Bump for next week.

The fact that you have to unjustifiably demonize McClintock in order to bring yourself to oppose him is typical the somersaults of conscience conservatives are doing to support Arnold.
Arnold has publicly betrayed party ("ashamed to be a Republican") and every principle the GOP stands for, but you people are somehow so annoyed by Indian money (no mention of Arnold's Las Vegas money) that none of this matters.
Why do I get the sense that any reason would be good enough?
To: martin_fierro
Re: your tagline: Arnold is going to win anyway. Vote Tom to show him he'd better act conservative.

Did you see Hoverbug's take on Arnold's off his own reservation on the Indian issue?
From here (#96):

(Now he's back with a terminal trainee [Arnold]
Yep. I'm still looking for the "natural disaster, terrorist attack, or other emergency" that prompted Arnold's call for a TAX INCREASE on the Indians.
The election hasn't even taken place and he's called for a TAX INCREASE .
And before the Arnie-bots come back with their "fair share" argument, I haven't seen ANYTHING about decreasing taxes anywhere else to keep his call for a TAX INCREASE on the Indians to be revenue neutral.
That folks, is a TAX INCREASE. It is an icrease to government revenue from individuals' pockets.
Arnold is alread pitting one group against another for a TAX INCREASE
The election hasn't happened, and I can already say, "I told you so."

That is one of the most ridiculous posts I've seen. Renegotiating the compacts with the Indian reservations is not taxes... you guys are stretching so far you just look silly.

Is the point of Schwarzenegger "renegotiating the compacts with the Indian reservations" to get more money? Was the point of Gray Davis "increasing the vehicle registration fee" to get more money? Which of the above, if either, represents a tax increase?

This is even more entertaining than the explanation the Merc gave for supporting Davis last year: "We know he's a money grubbing thug, and is crooked as the day is long (believe us, we are as embarrassed as you to have him for governor), we at the Mercury feel he is the best choice to lead California blah blah..."
