The End of Hillary Clinton: UPDATE (Peter Paul still alive?) THREAD

Posted on 09/10/2003 7:55:40 AM PDT by jmstein7

Does anybody know if Peter Paul is still alive? Please let us know on this thread -- if so, there are only TWO MORE DAYS until the potential end of Hillary! In case any of you don't know what this is all about, please read the following story:

From Newsmax.com (http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2003/9/7/122557.shtml)

Justice Department Gives Green Light to Hillary Accuser

The Bush administration has quietly done an about-face on allegations that New York Sen. Hillary Clinton broke campaign finance laws in 2000 - with the Justice Department preparing to extradite one-time Clinton fund-raiser Peter Paul to the U.S. as part of a plea deal for his testimony.

Facing charges of stock fraud in the U.S. himself, Paul told reporters in 2001 that Sen. Clinton failed to report $2 million in in-kind contributions to her 2000 Senate campaign - expenses he incurred producing a gala August 2000 fundraiser-tribute to Bill and Hillary in Los Angeles.

Upon his indictment in June 2001 Paul fled to Brazil, where he was promptly arrested by local law enforcement. He has languished in jail there ever since, trying through his lawyers at Judicial Watch to arrange a plea bargain in exchange for his testimony against the New York Democrat.

In a troubling development, Paul was relocated last month to Brazil's maximum-security state penitentiary in Brasilia, where he was placed in the infamous Block F, also known as the "Corridor of Death."

Judicial Watch complained to the Justice Department last week that Paul's life was now in danger. The group's president, Tom Fitton, warned that 16 prisoners have been killed in Block F in the last year alone and that Americans are not very popular among Brazil's most hardened inmates.

"He's already been threatened," Fitton told the New York Post on Sunday.

"It's a mystery why Paul remained in a Brazil jail even after that country's Supreme Court decided he should be extradited last December," the paper noted. "After that, Fitton says he continually pressured officials at the U.S. Embassy to fetch Paul, but they told him they needed 'official' notice from the Brazilian foreign minister before they could do so."

When official notice finally came in mid-August, however, authorities didn't release Paul. Instead he was transferred to the Brasilia lockup while U.S. authorities declined yet again to intercede on his behalf.

But now, apparently fearing a repeat of what happened to key to Whitewater witness James McDougal, the Bush Justice Department has turned on a dime.

McDougal's testimony was to be the basis for an indictment of Mrs. Clinton in 1998. But he died in prison after guards confiscated his heart medication and threw him into solitary confinement, where he suffred cardiac arrest.

The sudden action on Paul's case comes just weeks after reports surfaced that former Hollywood fund-raiser Aaron Tonken has supplied damaging testimony about Hillary Clinton's fund-raising practices.

"I'm a star witness against President and Mrs. Clinton," Tonken claimed in a recent report on his case in Vanity Fair magazine, explaining that prosecutors wanted his testimony about" "fundraising activities that I've done on behalf of the Clintons."

The exact nature of Tonken's allegations against Sen. Clinton remains secret, the magazine said. But the celebrity moneyman is known to have been involved in the August 2000 fund raiser that is at the heart of Peter Paul's allegations.

Paul's extradition to the U.S. is set for Sept. 12 - "if he lives that long," says the Post.

Peter Paul has already been interviewed by the FBI in Brazil, and Tonken is a part of that same case concerning a 2000 fundraising gala in which Hillary did not report $2 million in donations to the FEC. Here is a link to the story on Tonken:

Hollywood Fund-Raiser: 'I'm a Star Witness Against the Clintons'

Here is an excerpt of a story with details of the charges:

Mr. Paul's money funded the August, 2000 production of “The Hollywood Gala Farewell Tribute To President Clinton,” which featured many Hollywood stars. Mr. Paul’s support for the event was also publicly denied by Mrs. Clinton in The Washington Post and in a debate with then opponent Rick Lazio. The government is seeking the cooperation of Mr. Paul, who is in a Brazilian prison pursuant to an U.S. extradition request on alleged stock and bank fraud. Mr. Paul has already provided evidence to Justice Department investigators in Brazil about the criminal activity of Bill and Hillary Clinton. Mr. Paul told the Department of Justice about the documents and storage facility ten months ago, and had provided them with documentation (checks, videos, financial statements) of his work for the Clintons in early 2001. Mr. Paul donated the over $2 million to the Clinton campaign as part of a $17 million offer to Bill Clinton to work with him after he left the Oval Office. The search warrant authorizing the FBI raid of the storage facility specifically references the Clintons and the New York Senate campaign. The search warrant authorizes the seizure of:

Records relating to New York Senate 2000, the Hollywood Gala Salute to President William Jefferson Clinton, the Federal Election Commission, David Rosen and Aaron Tonken...

(David Rosen was the Director of Finance for Hillary Clinton’s Senate campaign, and Aaron Tonken is a Democrat fundraiser who raised money for the Clintons. Both men have knowledge of Mr. Paul’s contributions.)

It will be incredibly interesting to see how the other Dem prez candidates handle the situation if Hillary gets into the race.

Would any of them dare to criticize or question her?

I can't imagine it, unless it was someone like Sharpton who's just in it for the pub and doesn't care.

Except that he wouldn't because they are kissing cousins.

More details on the fundraiser:

An in-depth article in Sunday's Los Angeles Times examined the relationship between the gala political fundraiser held at Stan Lee's home for Hillary Clinton's 2000 Senate campaign and the collapse of Stan Lee Media shortly thereafter. According to the article, the fundraiser, which cost approximately $2 million to stage but raised only $1 million for the campaign, figured prominently in both the collapse and the subsequent legal problems of Stan Lee Media executives. That's because the money for the fundraiser came largely from Merrill Lynch margin accounts secured by Stan Lee Media co-founder Peter Paul's stock in the company. The borrowing was in excess of the limit placed on borrowing against the stock, and when Merrill froze activity in the accounts in November of 2000, checks started bouncing, rumors that Stan Lee Media was out of cash began to spread, the stock price began to spiral downward, and a $40 million financing deal for the company collapsed, leading to the company's demise.

Among those facing legal problems related to the events are former Stan Lee Media executive Stephen Gordon, who was convicted in what was termed a "check-kiting" scheme and faces sentencing August 4th (he plans to appeal); two others convicted with Gordon; Peter Paul, who awaits extradition in a Brazilian jail; and fundraiser Aaron Tonken, charged with mail fraud for charitable promotions unrelated to the event but now being investigated for his political fundraising, according to the article.

BTT...for some reason this article is not getting much response. I have been waiting over a year to get this update, I knew it would pop up once Hillary started hinting about running for Prez. I just hope the DoJ follows through on this.

Judicial Watch now offers its own membership badge with holder, to members. It has an additional slot for JW membership card or ID. Make it official by owning a JW badge.

Aw, c'mon. For a mere 45 bucks you can go to Washington, whip out your official JW badge, and say "You're going DOWN, Hillary!!!"
