[history]
"I'm in this race to the finish. That would be 8 p.m., Oct. 7 I'm old-fashioned. I believe we should have a campaign first and then let the voters decide who wins. They're perfectly capable.
"What's going on here is the country club set wants to make the decision for the people."
Is there any conceivable chance he'll get out? "None."
"That was a searing experience," he says. "It made a big impression."

"McClintock won't drop out for a number of practical reasons but most importantly because he just isn't the kind of person to do it. "
===
How nice to know that he is the kind of person who rather hand the state over to Bustamante, than be sensible, because "that's just the way he is". And this is supposed to endear him to me?

"Why did I say what I said about FReepers?"
==
My guess is because they are McClintock's ONLY supporters. And judging from the FR poll, actually only half the Freepers are at that.

"If you never win one election, have you really done anything for conservatism?"
===
It makes them feel all virtuous and better than the rest, while their actions put Clinton into the office twice and is about to put Bustamante into the CA governorship, from where he can launch a real campaign for Aztlan, to give part of the US to Mexico.

"McClintock must stay in the race as insurance against Democrat (Mulholland) dirty tricks."
===
Actually McClintock staying in the race IS one of the Democrats' dirty tricks, or hadn't you figure that out yet?
To: Guyin4Os
"It's time for the McClintock/Mountjoy/Brulte wing to run the party for awhile. " ===
I am so glad you mentioned Brulte: HE wants McClintock to drop out too.
State Senate Republican leader Jim Brulte reiterated this weekend his willingness to help talk second-tier GOP candidates out of the race. California will be no better off if Gray Davis is recalled and Republican candidates finish two, three and four, Brulte said.

To: Texas_Dawg
I love how "RINO" on FR has come to mean "people who vote for Republicans" or "any Republican candidate who wins elections". ===
Unfortunately you are exactly correct.
Republicans are called RINOs and those who are about to hand the election over to the Democrats claim to be principled conservative Republicans. Left is right and right is left. Good is bad and bad is good. And just what is the meaning of "is" anyway? Clinton could hardly do better in twisting things around.

Enjoy Cruz.

Yep. That's why I don't really think they are conservatives. They are just pride-filled, self-absorbed misanthropes.

It seems to me that splitting the GOP ticket is a sure win for Bustamonte....
Well...maybe not what is no on recall yes on Bustemonte? he's splitting his own vote like saying vote for Davis and vote for me.And by the way I'll raise your taxes too.I've seen most polls showing Arnold would win even with Mclintock in the race.

Are you Kidding? McClintock supporters have been called everything in the book by the Arnie cronies.And posters from every state seem to think they should tell us in California we need to vote for Arnie for the good of the party and for Bush.It wasn't much of an insult anyway. Texas dawg has the "a vote for tom is a vote for cruz" tattoed inside of his eye lids.The Arnie teenie boppers are afraid of real conservatives. The party hard cores, without regards to principle, are the ones who are going to ruin the party. They are not hard core conservatives. Their god is the Republican party, right or wrong.Arnold is so far left of most conservative views he is unexpectable.He would be better than the madman cruz, but I'm not ready to jump on his boat.

Actually McClintock staying in the race IS one of the Democrats' dirty tricks, or hadn't you figure that out yet? They're all dirty tricks. Politics is not an honest business.
However, the impact of McClintock staying in a little bit longer is moot if one or the other drops out with enough time to create a wave of enthusiam. If McClintock were to drop out at the end of September, say, with a message of having stayed in to ensure that the issues that matter to average Californians got a fair debate amongst the candidates, and in feeling that that was accomplished he now supports Schwarzenegger to "do the right thing," that could boost the base in the final week. The News Media will have to cover it. They will be talking about McClintock, Schwarzenegger, and the California GOP. They will not be talking about Davis or Bustamante, at least not in depth.
In other words, one dropping out in the end will "suck the air out of the room" and the won't be talking about Davis and Bustamante, they'll be talking about Schwarzenegger/McClintock.

"Just like Ron Paul, who would piss at a windmill, get sprayed when it blew back at him and would stand there with a dumbfounded and astonished expression that people would be pointing at him and laughing. "
Good one :)
Ron told Alan Colmes on his radio show we need to get out of Iraq and bring all our troops home and cut the military to 100,000 to keep Mexicans out.

A key phrase to ponder from the article:
"If Bustamante is elected governor, Republicans will be utterly destroyed," Quinn says. "They would be laughed at and scorned. It would be an incredible boost for Democrats nationally."
THIS is why McClintock should drop out NOW.
To: Miss Marple
Third sentence/paragraph in article:
"What's going on here is the country club set wants to make the decision for the people."
Apparently, McC isn't familiar with Dale Carnagie's book "How to Win Friends and Influence Enemies."

I sounds like he's more stubborn than principled. At this rate he'll never get anything done.

Some people think that principled conservatives hand the election over to liberals when they don't get their way.
Remember being a principled conservative means standing aside and doing nothing when nutbag like Bustamante is on the verge of taking office.
