Gee, maybe he can't think of every type of disaster. Maybe he left open a hole big enough for Ted Kennedy to squirm through.

Look Don, we don't need a hollywierd actor running the fifth largest economy in the world.
What California needs is Tom McClintock, who has a proven conservative track record and can get things done.

Still, Schwarzenegger stopped short of pledging never to raise taxes, saying an earthquake, terrorist attack or
OTHER emergency might require it.
Can you say loophole?
Sure, I knew you could.

Arnold is going to win the 2nd question on the recall vote with 50%+ of the vote, once Tom and Pete drop out. Tom will be dropping out any time now. You gonna vote for Bustabutt, when he does?

To: Roscoe
President Bush Sr. didn't, and you still got a tax increase. Arnold has stated his position that he will not raise taxes to resolve the deficit. If you choose not to believe him, that's your choice.

You make some wild ass assumptions about Tom dropping out. I heard him on a radio talk show recently and he said he was in the race until the end. Look at all the pro McClintock supporters showing here at Free Republic over the past week...Tom is gaining momentum, while Arnold is loosing momentum. I know your starting to get worried, and probably second guessing youself.
I'll tell you what..I'll vote for Arnold if Tom drops out

Now that you point it out, there is a resemblance between Mr. Rogers and Tom McClintock.

What else can he say? "Yea, I'm dropping out, but not for a couple of weeks." He is making an honest try to win, but if the polls don't go his way, he'll drop out. As will Arnold, if the polls don't go his way. Tom has stated as much indirectly when asked if he is going to drop out, and he replies that he is expecting Arnold to drop out. Tom knows that there must be one to run against Bustabudget.
If you think FR is representative of the support among all voters, you live a sheltered life. Everyone on FR would rather have Tom as governor, but when the day comes to vote you have to vote for the person who can fix the economy. To do that you must win! Currently, Arnold is the only one who fits the bill. That can change, of course.
I'm glad you aren't a McClintock KoolAid drinker.

say Dooonnneeeee... you might remember that Ahnuld's left hand man is Petey Wilson who promised not to raise taxes, and was specific in '90 and then gave CA the biggest tax increase in state history calling it "an emergency measure" and that's just what Ahnuld plans on since he has
already sold out to the NEA/CA teachers that he won't cut that porky part of the bloated budget! You'll be happy to
know that Wilson's gurus claimed that the TAX INCREASES would bring in $7 Billion in new state revenues....BUT the actually LOST $1 Billion from the stupid move... History repeats itself unless you wise up and vote for a real plan like McClintock's... good luck at coming to your senses ;^)

I was wondering why the teachers association was supporting Arnold...

If true, you think Arnold and Wilson will do the same thing again?
Keep your KoolAid nearby, the end is near for Tom.

You're right. Since the Bush Sr. promise I don't place much weight on promises without a record to back it up.
California will not be fixed unless it accepts a smaller government.
McClintock has a solid record of promoting smaller government. You cannot dispute that.
Arnold has neither a solid promise or any record that would suggest that he would promote smaller government. Nor has he chosen any significant fiscal conservatives as advisors. If he could simply demonstrate that he's a small government RINO, I might be convinced that he could fix California. But he has yet to do that to my satisfaction.
Apparently, you have a lot of faith in Arnold. I will not place faith in a politician. I want a demonstration. However, I'll make this concession to TheDon - I will keep an open mind and allow Arnold to demonstrate (somehow) that he is for smaller government. Until then, I will promote McClintock.

Wilson specifically refused to take a "no tax pledge." He simply said that he was against higher taxes except for cases of emergency (according to McClintock in his recent interviews). This is disturbing because Wilson is a key person in Schwarzenegger's campaign. McClintock, on the other hand, has taken a "no tax pledge," and he also has a track record which gives him credibility on the tax issue.
If true, you think Arnold and Wilson will do the same thing again?
If Schwarzenegger were to make a statement repudiating what Wilson did in 1991, I think it would help alleviate fears that he would do just that.
