When California lawmakers voted in 1999 to approve legislation giving state employees more generous retirement benefits and opening the door to a round of big increases in local government pensions, only a handful of legislators opposed the bill. One of them was then-Assemblyman Tom McClintock.

Pair back tribes on gambling Bustamante and McClintock deny any dealing for donations

Tom's been busy hanging out with Bustamente asking the Indians for wampum.

The question is: Does Arnold have the guts to stand up to the spending lobby? Probably not. He's got too many Democrat connections. He refuses to rule out tax increases and that is a bad sign. With taxes already too high in California there are no circumstances that would justify a tax increase. Why increase taxes after a disaster? That would just pile one bad thing on top of another.

Arnold is showing he doesn't understand the situation by refusing to rule out tax increases.

Go Tom!

I've noticed this annoying habit of the press too. I think the press fear McClintock, more then they are willing to admit.

Actually, Arnold has promised not to raise taxes to resolve the deficit. It is the overspending that has gotten us into trouble. The governor is supposed to ensure that doesn't happen using the line item veto. As Davis hasn't done it, we have the problems we do, and Davis is facing a recall.

He made no such promise. Ahnold said he'd only raise them in an "emergency" - and refuses to define "emergency".

Pete Wilson made the same promise in 1990. Once in office, he immediately declare a fiscal emergency, and rammed through the largest tax increase in state history. RINO Ahnold will do the same. Count on it.

That's for sure. California is now in a death spiral. As the public employee unions control more of the state capital, they will demand more money, which will compel Sacramento to raise taxes on the private sector that will reduce the revenue to the state treasury, until the public employee's will be paid with "State Warrants", instead of checks that the private sector will not have to honor.

If Orange County can go bankrupt, so can the State of California.

I know what you're implying, that is to vote for Schwarzenegger. Frankly, I would expect a good candidate to meet with many groups in California. What I don't expect is any promise of "deals" that Bustamante is likely to suggest. McClintock, on the other hand, I expect will offer the lawful and constitutional assistance to the Indians, should they need it, within the bounds of the governors office, and no more, or no less. That's a Conservative!

Arnold did make such a promise. And he did define emergency as a natural disaster or a terrorist attack.

You want to mention Pete Wilson? What was the surplus when he left office? The taxes raised had sunset provisions, and are long gone. Don't forget who else raised taxes, President Reagan. ;^)

No doubt!

Yes he did. When there was a surplus, Gov. Reagan refunded the money to the taxpayer too.

Cite your source that he limited "emergency" to those to examples.

Ahhhh, so Ahnold won't raise taxes, but even if he does, it is a good thing because Wilson and Reagan also did it. If you believe raising taxes is such a good thing for our economy, then why don't you vote for Cruz Bustamante who has promised to do so, as opposed to Ahnold who is lying when he says he won't?

No doubt!

That would be his duty as governor. To serve the people without favor.

Arnold on the other hand..(no don't sling any mud Bucko, you're above that)
